This 'R - Type' has been the subject of a lengthly & thorough restoration by her fastidious collector owner with very impressive results. The coachwork has been subjected to many hundreds of hours of attention to the metalwork, paintwork was fully refinished & corrosion protected with waxoyl to the underside & chassis
The results speak for themselves, making her certainly one of the finest R - Types available today
INTERIOR:
This stunning example was optioned new with the current scheme of full Brown hide upholstery, Fawn headcloth with contrasting carpets. All aspects of this wonderful interior are exceptionally well detailed including the polished walnut veneers
Upon viewing the history file, there is a photographic record of the leather upholstery receiving restoration in 1996 & now carries a beautiful light patination throughout. The original Smiths clock was fully restored & upgraded by experts, 'Raymond E. A. Webb' in Suffolk with invoice on file.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION:
The Bentley 'R-Type' was the factory improved continuation of the highly desired MkVI sports saloon. Produced with the super smooth "Big Bore" 4556cc straight six engine with twin SU carburetors & coupled to a four speed manual transmission
Chassis 'B435SP' has been the subject of a large restoration programme & these works have not been limited to just the exterior. The current keeper of ten years was a keen driver & had very strict requirements that all vehicles in his personal collection should be able to drive without fuss in the blistering Spanish climate. As such, when the coachwork restoration works were underway, the engine & transmission was removed from the chassis & inspected
The 4. 5 litre engine, which was replaced in 1964, was stripped down & has been extensively rebuilt at great expense, covering just over 2, 000 miles since. The transmission was inspected & recieved a new clutch & a high ratio differential was fitted to aid motorway & high speed cruising. The braking system was also inspected & refreshed
HISTORY FILE:
Rarely do we come accross motor cars with this amount of detailed documentation!
The impressingly large history file is carefully curated to aid viewing & is broken down into sections from the initial Bentley order & factory build records right through to the most recent restoration invoices, spanning the past sixty six years
Confirmed by the Rolls Royce & Bentley Enthusiasts Club archives, this 'R-Type' was retailed new by 'P. F. Evans Ltd' Of Birmingham & supplied to 'Alfred Adams & Co Ltd' on 15th April 1953 & was issued with a local 'NOH' prefix registration number that she still wears to this day
Quite amazingly, the history file contains a typed document detailing all works carried out between March 1963 - September 1967. Most noticible is the entry from 2nd July 1964 when 'Newbury Motors' fitted a new
4. 5 litre engine at the cost of £366. 13. 10!!
'NOH' has been owned by Bentley enthusiasts since new including a twenty one year period (1988 - 2009) with a Mr Pearce before residing in a private collection Spain with the current keeper, Mr Mason who conducted the detailed refurbishments works between 2009 - 2012
The restoration documents are very detailed & we have invoices on file from respected marque suppliers totalling in excess of £20, 000 over three years - Please also note that there is no invoices for labour as work was carried out "in-house" & we estimate that this alone would be close to the £25, 000 figure
Apart from the massive quantity of restoration & parts invoices, the original buff log book from April 1953 is present along with the current issued 'V5c', previous MoT certificates from 1981 - 2003, tax discs from 1996 - 2006, 'R-Type' technical drawings, various photographs & documents from her overseas club meetings & tours including with the RREC Queens Golden Jubillee Tribute In 2002 & RREC South-West section on the Cognac tour in 1996
The history file simply contains far to much inforamtion to list & is of course highly recommended to view in person!
