Descrizione
First registered on the 1st of January 1936 this car has been through the hands of only 9 owners since. It still retains its original registration mark. We know from the history that it was in East Sussex by the 1960's and then in long term ownership in the Midlands through the 70s and 80s.
During the mid 80s it lived in Kent, Dorset, Cornwall and France, During the 1980's this car was completely rebuilt. The body was taken off the chassis and every part was rebuilt or replaced. The body was restored and fully repainted, the interior fully re trimmed and the engine given a complete overhaul. Shortly after this the car was sold to the Stratford Upon Avon Motor Museum and it was on display for some years so not driven at all. It then went to the South of France when the engine was then replaced with a professionally build two bearing crankshaft model which was fitted in 1995. Having driven only around 1000 miles it was repatriated to the U. K.
Between 1999 and 2003 the car had a further £3000 invested on maintenance, servicing and some further improvements. The fuel tank was replaced, the clutch relined, the carbs rebuilt along with the dynamo and a myriad of other parts bringing this car up to an excellent standard. We have the invoices for all of this work.
This car has also had another £2000 invested in 2019. It has had two new running boards, a new ignition switch, two new rear tyres (and the spare is as new), a recon cylinder head and block installed and a replacement of all fluids. The new block was complete with 56mm pistons and cost £670 alone. This engine runs a high compression head and the car is comfortable to cruise at 40 mph.
The bodywork is in excellent condition and very straight with no dents or wrinkles. Although not 'over restored so very usable and authentic. Underneath is absolutely solid throughout and presents very well indeed. Under the folding bonnet the engine looks great and the ancillaries are all in good order. The interior is excellent and the re trimmed grey leather is still fresh. The carpets are excellent as is the headlining.
The 4 speed gearbox is very good and it evens brakes it a straight line! It starts readily and is a real head turning car. There is nothing that is required to this car so it is ready to enjoy and no doubt give many miles of pure driving pleasure. It will also look excellent at the many shows throughout the season.
The addition of indicators and led sidelights are useful in modern traffic. Being a 'deluxe' model it has an electric wiper. The pull back sun roof works very well and really gives a feeling of open top motoring but without the leaks etc of a convertible.
In summary an excellent example of a motoring icon that is now nearly 90 years old that can be used and enjoyed. The investments made mean that it can be enjoyed straight away and with minimal maintenance it will continue to be a safe and wise investment - they are not making any more like this!
The owners handbook comes with the car and explains all the regular and periodic servicing and greasing requirements, If you can use a spanner and a grease gun then there will be very little expenditure needed to keep this little gem on the road.
Any inspection is of course welcome and encouraged.
