4. 9L Petrol Engine. MOT Exempt. Tax Exempt. Military Registration 54 BJ 91. Released in January 1988. Certificate of Manufacture showing build date of 2nd February 1953. Matching Chassis and Engine Numbers. Comes with 2 spare sets of ignition keys (3 sets total), a full parts manual, a LUCAS contact set & a spare steering wheel cowling. New Battery. New Tyres, costing £1200 recently.
Here we have for sale a previously enthusiast owned Bedford® RL MKI 4ton. As can be seen from the photographs, it is presented in ‘smart’ order, and in running and driving condition. The bodywork is of a good standard and in general, the whole truck seems to have been well looked after and maintained in the past. In fact, we heard from the previous owner that he recently spent £1200 on the tyres alone – these being the correct type for the vehicle.
Perhaps the rear benefit to a truck such as this is the opportunity to carry load or passengers across muddy terrain – these vehicles have 4WD and are surprisingly capable off-road. It would therefore be ideal for a multitude of purposes from attending military shows (as the previous keeper did), or use as a shoot vehicle or even as a ‘load lugger’…. these vehicles really are very versatile and at the asking price, provide fantastic value for money in our opinion.
This Bedford starts on the button, assisted by a brand new battery & drives just as it should. The 4. 9L petrol engine revs freely and gives ample power (rated at 110bhp). As such, these Bedfords are fun to drive.
In summary, if you are looking for something a little bit different, that stands out from the crowd and can be reasonably driven without too much compromise, then this could be for you. With MOT & Tax Exemption and classic insurance, it should also prove cost-effective to own in the longer term.
