Description
For sale 1964 Rochdale Olympic Phase 2 fibreglass monocoque project.
Complete with relevant V5 and a very appealing age related plate. First registered in 1964 and shows as a 1498cc in green with DVLA.
This project was taken on around 18 months ago with the vision of using MK1 Mazda MX5 donor parts to get the vehicle back on the road. The shell of the vehicle remains very much standard to the original mould with the exception of some changes to the front and rear wheel arches which have been widened by the previous owner. The drivers side arch needs attention, otherwise the body seems to be in excellent workable condition.
At this stage, the inner front arches of the vehicle have been modified to accommodate the MK1 MX5 front sub-frame as a complete unit and wings now incorporate the factory top suspension mounts to help preserve original MX5 geometry.
The engine has been moved back 8” to clear the bonnet line and tacked onto fabricated engine mounts on the sub frame. This pushes the gearbox back nicely into the existing tunnel and the gear stick into hand. So the feasibility work done at this stage successfully shows that this will be an ideal donor vehicle in terms of size.
The current donor parts are from a MX5 S-Limited edition with relatively low mileage (80k) and the high revving, manual 1. 6 twin cam 16v is lightweight and parts (and upgraded parts) are available in abundance. Space in the engine bay also means that turbo and supercharger kits could also be considered with ample clearance for cooling and pipework.
The engine was run and then subject of a oil change before being disassembled. The donor ran very well and was driving in the weeks before being disassembled for donor parts.
The vehicle will come complete with the following:
· MK1 MK1 Engine, gearbox, prop shaft, rear diff and all suspension components · Four alloy wheels · Front and rear sub frames · Steering column · Pedal box · PPF Frame · Exhaust downpipe (cut) · Brake servo, power steering pup, steering rack and all components to get to a rolling chassis · Miscellaneous parts such as centre arm rest, blower vents and other parts considered of use · Driver and passenger doors complete with functioning original window winder mechanisms and hinges · Rear opening tailgate · Bonnet · Windscreen · Rear screen · Driver and passenger side windows · Four original steel wheels · Headlamps x 2 Pairs · Dual filler caps (E Type Genuine parts) · All light fittings · Chrome over riders
The monocoque is currently sat on a dolly frame with the engine and gearbox situated in place and will be included in the sale. Should collection of the vehicle be an issue, the body should fit into a tail-lift luton style van along with all of the above components.
The vehicle is located in East Sussex and in close proximity to Newhaven ports for any overseas enquiries. This has the potential to be a capable and reliable mix of old and new using the modern day classic MX5 as a base renown for its dependability, reliability and abundance of spares.
Alternatively, it is very easily turned back to it’s original layout to please any purist
