Easy project Karmann Ghia Lowlight 1959, registered as a 1960.
Quite possibly the cheapest, registered, running lowlight in the world, see if you can find another cheaper?
South African car which has been dry stored for many years.
LHD as per all Lowlights were manufactured.
Now UK registered. Reg No. 821 XVJ. V5 in my name and address. Mot and tax exempt.
MOT and Tax exempt.
Starts up well and engine sounds good, no smoke or endfloat play.
I took the car for a quick drive and it drives well, brakes, gears, clutch, etc all feel good. The car will need going over before it can be driven any distance.
Carb will need a clean/ service. There can be a smell of fuel sometimes, i can see no leaks , i believe the carb float bowl could be sticking now and again.
Lights, wipers, horn all work.
South African papers registered the Karmann as a 1/ 1/ 1960 model, so UK papers will be the same.
Interior is in good condition.
Paint is good but not perfect.
12v conversion.
Floors look very good overall, but rear floor behind driver has had a plate and will need redoing, VW heritage do an excellent easy to replace panel.
Engine is a single port, i believe it may be the original 1200cc engine, but cannot be sure, South Africa used their own engine number system so identification can sometimes be difficult.
Engine bay looks good and i can see no signs of rear crash damage.
Car is not perfect and will need some restoration work and an overall tidy up, but hey, it is a Lowlight.
