Description
Bond bug 850 cc. 1972
Bought last spring, the bug was in running order but tired and neglected. The saving grace was that it had a recent new chassis and was fitted with a sweet running , later 850cc motor with alternator and SU carb conversion.
My grand plan was to make a useable, reliable car that I could use as a show car and a tow car for my motorhome.
There followed a six month, virtually full time program of refurbishment. (Photo records and receipts)
The chassis was cleaned and found to be Unmarked and rust free. Two coats of black hammerite later it should be trouble free for another 40 years.
A very comprehensive mechanical overhaul includes complete braking system refurb with new master and all slave cylinders , flexi and copper pipes and friction linings. New suspension front and rear with adjustable coil overs.
New pedal box with master and slave clutch cylinders. New fuse box and wiring. Led lights (originals kept). Tubular steel exhaust manifold with cherry bomb (sounds very fruity).
Body refurbishment involved new canopy hinge mounting plates bonded in.
(A common problem). New canopy hinges . glass out respray new headlights. New tailgate made from 13mm solid perspex wrapped in carbon fibre. New rubber mats, upholstery seat padding . New doors and side screens (cost £600). Powder coated alloy wheels new tyres new decals. Various upgrades including led lights, voltmeter, deep dish alloy steering wheel and direction indicator stalk on the steering column.
The original engine was fitted with new gaskets, fully serviced . It starts and runs sweetly but I have another engine and box which has been race tuned. I had planned to fit these sometime in the future .
The list goes on and on...., suffice to say,
This is a VERY WELL SORTED bug.
The trailer is a professionally converted Erde 3 motorcycle carrier that has retractable alloy loading ramps.
The bug sits perfectly on it with great balance. Loads and unloads easily single handed . Tows beautifully with an all up weight of around 550kgs!!
Driven less than 200 miles since refurbishment and is for sale as unfortunately the "sporting " ride is exacerbating an old back injury.
Quite frankly after hundreds of hours, thousands of pounds I am gutted.
But the reality is I cannot drive the bug for more than 20 miles without financing my chiropractors next foreign holiday.
I have petrol in my veins and a collection of classic cars, so I will consider any interesting px with cash either way.
Please don't even think about silly offers,
It owes me more than I'm asking.
( the race engine gearbox and trailer cost me nearly £2k alone)
Nice bugs are commanding very strong money and are rising steadily.
Looks gorgeous, drives lovely , turns more heads than my E type (annoyingly)
And better than money in the bank.
Books and manuals, loads of spares.
V5 in my name

£140 pa insurance with agreed valuation of £14k.
