More a Sport Special!
Not a long lost Carlton or Abbot DB18!!
One of the 500 elegant Barker coupe bodies, was rescued and later fitted with a Century 100BHP engine and preselect box mated to a higher ratio hypoid rear axle. Another S. S was recently on Car and Classic with this engine apparently retrofitted by the Daimler factory - so an appropriate conversion).
DVLA registered as a Daimler Century Convertible ( as was their methodology i. e to register with the newest major components).
Chassis in good order, cleaned and painted. Replacement galvanized steel floor. Replacement steering box ex D. Sleigh (told cost £1k).
Rewired. Retrimmed in Burgundy leather some time ago and much rechroming done. 3rd Jump seat needs retrim. Grille in good order.
The car starts, runs and moves . Comes with spare alloy cylinder head with valves and gasket.
Body from the doors, sills, rear wings back is all aluminium pretty original and appears sound including the ash frame. Bizarrely the steel front wing and bonnet heights were altered (poorly) to accommodate the taller century radiator!
I have now stripped back the front wings to correct height and contours. The tops are sound, need panel work to lower sections. The bonnet sides also need lowering and small side plates made together with a front apron. The radiator has now been reconditioned and modified, ready to refit. I toyed with making the car resemble a Churchill Carlton or Abbot car using a DB18 hinged bonnet and vertical radiator grille.
Well, they do it to Bentleys!!
Have DB18 bonnet available if your tempted.
V5 in my name with a good ( I believe) transferable Reg No RYC904.
Registered as an historic vehicle. Barker body No 370
Lots done, needs finishing, sold as an project car.
An opportunity to complete as a Special Sports but with the later running gear giving more power or source Consort engine/ box or make a unique hybrid resembling a Carlton/ Abbot.
A Sport Special indeed!
