HERE is my 1963 (March) MGB Roadster Mark 1. Really pretty and solid and regularly MoT'd. The current test expires next month (November), (no advisories). I will tell you what I know. In 1981 she was acquired by a chap in Whitby. At the time, it had just 3 previous owners. He kept it until last year when he passed away and ownership was switched to his wife. It was then sold to a new owner in Wales who - it would appear - painted the car and also fitted a rebuilt engine. She has excellent early style seats and dash, new carpets including boot and spare wheel cover, fold away hood (decent order) and a full size tonneau. She retains the original style steering wheel. I have driven her just six miles this morning and she performed admirably. I would recommend collection by trailer or else I can assist with delivery. We cannot be sure how much mileage she has covered in recent years and it is probably negligible. The odometer appears to be stuck. Anyway, a sweet and lively car to drive with excellent handling and gear changing.
You will do well to find a Mark 1 at this sort of money and basically the next owner is benefitting from my buying skills. It will have been a pull handle model at new and indeed the Mark 1 (early style) interior door handles remain and function. I can only assume that someone has fitted later style push button handles. The lock is missing from the passenger door. Not a great deal more that I can say really except that here is a one-off chance to grab an early Mark 1 for what is virtually rubber bumper money!
She is red by the way and not tinged with orange. That's just my photos. I think she looks better in the flesh to be fair. Naturally, I am not selling a condition 1 Mark 1 for 7k. It would be twice that. Maybe even more. But it's a very nice Condition 3 with room for improvement which would move into the 2 bracket. The paint work is not bad at all, although not to expert standards. Some paint is peeling off the outer sills (which look like they are relatively new). So, it's bits and pieces like that. On the flip side, you get an eye-catching B roadster with all the goodies associated with the early models. Her engine bay (and painted engine) are particularly impressive.
All my classic vehicles are sold as the equivalent of motoring antiques. Inevitably, they will all have had work in the past and doubtless will need more in the future. There can be no guarantees when purchasing a car of this age. This MGB, a fine example though she is, is now 57-years-old. There is every chance that hew next owner will be younger than the car.
