1964 Volvo 122 Amazon
B18 engine
4 speed manual gearbox
Right Hand Drive - South African import in 1971
Mileage unknown
In need of rebuild.
I'm selling this Amazon to fund another Volvo project - I had initially planned to restore it with some modern touches, to replace the Amazon I already own, but I'm rationalising my collection.
This is a South African market car, imported to the UK in 1971 and still wearing its ZA badge on the bootlid. As a 1964 model it has some nice features removed from the later cars, such as the Volvo logo cast bootlid handle, the stylish steering wheel, unvented wheels and a plusher interior. The grilles pictured have been replaced with some better condition 1966 grilles.
It is fairly complete, in that it has all major components, body, mechanical and interior, but undoubtedly some parts will require refurbishment or replacement.
It has been dry stored for many years, and has some evidence of repairs in the time since it was taken off the road, before I got it. It is, on the whole, a very solid basis for a quality restoration. The panels are all in good condition. The inner wings have had some welded repairs in the past which, although solid, could be improved upon with the shotgun panels available now. Underneath, I can see the outrigger under the driver's footwell, and the spare wheel well both need welded repairs - both simple to weld, and inexpensive panels. Crucially, the expensive front wings and grille panel are all solid.
The engine is present but doesn't turn over by hand, so this will want attention. The M40 4 speed gearbox selects gears as it should but for obvious reasons hasn't been tested with a running engine. All the glass is intact, as are the seats and door cards, in good condition. The brakes are free and so it will roll, albeit with some persuasion, due to 3 of the tyres having perished from standing.
There is an assortment of parts for this car in a few boxes which will come with it, but haven't been photographed. Most of the parts shown to be missing in the photos will be in these boxes.
All in all, this car has lots of potential to be a real stunner, without requiring hundreds of hours of cutting and welding that most do. The perfect project for a winter at home!
The car is located in South Cumbria, near Ulverston. I'm happy to deliver it anywhere in the UK or Europe - please get in touch for a delivery quote. Payment by bank transfer on collection or delivery, with transport costs to be paid in advance for delivery.
If I've missed anything, I'll be only too happy to answer any queries by phone or message. Thank you for looking!
