Description
Thank you for viewing this advert, the car pictured was obtained June 2020 in very poor condition and since that time, it’s had a team of dedicated Rover Coupe enthusiasts bring it back to road worthy condition to a very high standard making it one of the best examples currently out there in the market.
The car was last on the road in 2009 and has covered some serious mileage during its time with the speedometer showing 225, 000 (an average of 14, 600 per year) miles which is all backed up in previous MOT reports. The car came out the factory in March 1994 originally in Tahiti Blue and at some point in the hands of a previous owner, the car under went a full professional strip down (engine bay, doors, sills etc), and respray in Rover Diamond White along with replacement new arches on the rear of the car. The colour change has been recorded with the DVLA and is correctly shown on the V5 log book. The car looks superb in white and it would be very difficult for anyone to know its not the original colour for this car. You may not even be bothered about the colour change (?) however we wanted to be totally honest to any new potential owner.
The original engine wasn’t present when we obtained the car, so we sourced and fitted a replacement T16 turbo engine and upgraded the ignition system to the more reliable wasted spark system eliminating the mechanical faults associated with the original mechanical distributor setup. The engine has been overhauled with a brand new cylinder head featuring all new valve stem seals, seats, valves and springs along with new gaskets and seals. The oil sump & turbo drain pipe have also been removed and resealed to eliminate any existing leaks with the bottom end. The engine is completely stock and fitted with a standard Garrett T25 turbo which is electrically controlled by the ECU. The turbo is connected to a brand new downpipe, brand new catalyst converter and also a stainless steel exhaust system made by Scorpion. The coolant system has had a complete overhaul featuring a brand new water pump, thermostat and reconditioned radiator and the gear linkage has also been upgraded with nylon bushes which eliminates that existing 'sloppy' feel for a more firm gear change.
The interior is totally standard and in very good condition. All instruments are fully functional including the original R750 radio, dashboard clock, interior light & hydraulic arm which operates the soft opening of the glovebox. The upholstery is full leather interior in ash grey with red piping and will be supplied with brand new floor mats for the new owner.
The exterior paintwork wasn't in great shape when we received the car therefore it was sent to the bodyshop for all rust to be removed, sills straightened and then full exterior respray keeping with the diamond white paint code. At the same time, we had both the bumper strips and front roof panel painted in gloss black and a brand new windscreen installed.
The car is fitted with standard suspension and has a number of brand new parts fitted such as front lower arms, drop links and track rod ends followed by a four wheel alignment.
Most 220 coupe owners will confirm that the original braking system on the turbo models was never sufficient enough for the power output/ speeds capable from the engine (197BHP & 155MPH). Thankfully we obtained the car with an upgraded kit already fitted, the front brakes have been replaced with MG ZR160 larger discs and calipers which is a direct bolt-on kit that doesn't compromise the original appearance of the car. The front discs are 282mm vented & grooved supported by EBC yellow stuff brake pads all round and good ridge braided brake hoses - The rear callipers/ discs are standard.
We obtained 5 original alloys and had them all refurbished and fitted with brand new tyres and centre caps along with new wheel nuts. 5mm spacers were required to increase the offset to clear the brakes.
The underside of the car has been cleaned, de-greased and then under sealed to protect it for many more years to come.
It's been completely serviced with all new filters and fluids - engine, gearbox, fuel & brakes etc.
Its currently SORN & without an MOT, however its already had a pre-MOT check and everything is ready for a fresh 12 month ticket which will be included free of charge for the new owner.
This is a very sorted car done to a very high standard. Bodywork is excellent, engine runs very well and absolutely every button & feature inside the car is fully functional. Hopefully the car speaks for itself in the pictures and despite having almost 225, 000 miles on the clock, it is one of the best examples out there.
We truly would challenge anyone to find us a better example with even half the mileage this car has covered.
For anyone looking to travel from a distance, we have multiple videos we can forward (prior to any travel commitments) showing a 360 tour of the car along with the engine running.
The rebuild of this car has been documented over on the Rover Coupe Owners Club forum with lots of pictures.
Viewing is highly recommended to appreciate the level of detail gone into this car.
Although the full asking price would be nice, we do welcome sensible offers from any potential buyer.
