We are delighted to present for sale this crossover Series 2a, presented in RAF Blue, a rare colour we do not often see. These crossover 2as were made for two years, from 1969-1971, and were the precursor to the introduction of the Series 3 Land Rover®. They still retain the “hard” metal dash and clocks in the centre, but with the lights in the wings with a Maltese grill.
Externally, there are lots of period features – the razor edge bonnet, wing-top mounted mirrors, vintage plates, etc etc. A towball and electrics are fitted, along with a rear step to assist passengers climbing into the rear, and for loading heavier items. A recent canvas has been fitted, and the vehicle sits on a set oversized tyres, with a nice all weather tread pattern – a good compromise between road holding and off roading ability, whilst also giving a strong stance too. Free Wheeling Hubs are fitted too, to limit front axle wear and maximise fuel economy. There are also a few military features – the whip aerial points, rear bumperettes and RAF stickers – which is nice to see.
The interior houses a pair of deluxe front seats, with a middle cubby box for storage, and deluxe matting to the footwells. A heater is fitted, with front demist to the screen – handy for those cold winter mornings. The rear houses a pair of bench seats, increasing occupancy to six including the driver, with a rubber load mat to the protect the rear floor from scratches.
Out on the road, this quiet petrol engine pulls well to speed, and the FWH to maximise the fuel economy possible. The reconditioned gearbox feels tight and is pleasant to use. With a distinct look, it really does turn heads wherever it goes – we got many admiring glances and waves on our test runs! As you can see from the under bonnet shot – it really is tidy under there and it feels well set up too.
In summary, if you are looking for a well-priced Series 2a Land Rover®, in a rare and pretty colour combination, that can carry all the family, then this could be for you. With MOT & Tax Exemption (and classic insurance) it should prove cheap to run in the long term whilst retaining its value, and would be a fantastic item to pass down through the family too.
