Launched in 1962, the Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud III and its Bentley S3 equivalent employed the 6. 2-liter V8 engine introduced on the 'Cloud II/ S2 - though with larger carburetors, new distributor and raised compression ratio - and came with a four-speed GM-derived automatic transmission as standard equipment. Most obvious among many changes from the preceding models was the adoption of four-headlamp lighting, the absence of sidelights from the wing tops, and a slightly lower radiator shell. Inside there was improved accommodation with separate front seats and increased room for rear passengers. Notable as the last mainstream Rolls-Royce to employ a separate chassis, the Silver Cloud III proved immensely successful both at home and abroad, remaining in production until the autumn of 1965. This beautiful example Silver Cloud III is presented in fantastic condition, the mechanicals having been thoroughly gone through and will benefit from a service from the world renowned Rolls Royce specialist RISTE in Nottinghamshire whom inspected the vehicle prior to us buying the car. The two-tone Royal Blue Metallic over Silver paintwork was done approximately 20 years ago when it had a colour change from its original colour Regal Red, the car was completely stripped to bare metal at the same time light corrosion was addressed. To this day the paintwork is in exceptional condition and not showing any corrosion or faded and still presented beautifully. The leather has been recently retreated and re-connolised and brought back to its original colour of off white. The woodwork is also in fine order, featuring occasional picnic tables in the rear. The engine was stripped about 15 years ago, the heads and carburettors were rebuilt with new main and big-end bearings fitted. At the time no sign of wear was evident in the bores, so they were de-glazed and new piston rings fitted. The water pump was rebuilt together with the exhaust and the cooling system thoroughly cleaned out. Approximately 10 years years ago the Rolls Royce undertook another program of restoration whereby the bushes, bearings and the overhauling of the shocks and added the Harvey Bailey Handling Kit to the front and rear, the brakes were reline and the brake flexors were replaced. We have recently done a complete engine detail while the car was being showroom prepared. The Rolls comes from a long-term ownership with the first owner having the car for many years and being the celebrated hairstylist Raymond Bessone OBE ' Teasie-Weasie' who owned a hair salon in Mayfair London and notably trained Vidal Sassoon. He was regarded as the first celebrity hairdresser and many cultural references were made to him including Sir John 'Teasy-Weasy' Butler in Monty Python. He ordered the Rolls Royce new through Jack Barclay in 1963 in Regal Red with a single gold coach line with off white leather interior. Please call for more detail.
