We sourced this lovely Karmann Ghia from Ireland for its current owner. It was previously owned by Neil Wilkinson, a well known face within the VW scene, you can see a picture of how serious he is about his cars in the last picture ' Bad Influence' .
As you can see the car has been modified to give an older appearance, having had a full documented restoration. The body was lifted from the floor pan, which was in superb unwelded condition. The shell, doors, bonnet and boot lid was sand blasted . The fuel flap was welded over and an early fuel tank was fitted. The original indicators, were also welded over and earlier chrome bullet housing with clear indicators were fitted. Earlier rear light sections and lights completed the body mods and then finished with early chrome towel rail bumpers. The body was then finished in gorgeous Speed Blue metallic.
New suspension was then fitted all round, and a 3'' narrowed link pin front beam was added. She's rolling on Porsche 6'' x 16'' polished Fuchs which perfect the overall look.
Look inside and you'll see the interior is blessed with fully reupholstered Porsche tomb stone seats with matching original rear seat, in blue and powder blue faux leather.
A project like this comes together with the smallest details, such as the chromed handbrake lever and Scat shifter. Autometer gauges were added and a Sony head unit can be found behind the glove box door, to keep things looking purposeful . The work was carried out in 2004 and still looks great today, having been cherished by its owners.
It has almost a full years mot, until 31/ 11/ 21 with no advisories and has just had its 1600cc engine completely rebuilt, by The Engine Shop and a new oil cooler, crank pulley, alternator etc, so is running really well.
This is my favourite car, in my favourite colour, an absolute gem.
