1964 AC Hawk Cobra 289 FIA For Sale
This extremely authentic replica was built over the last 5 years using a chassis and body supplied by Gerry Hawkridge at Hawk Cars, renowned as the builder of the most accurate replicas and supplier/ fettler/ guru of many original cars
Accurate round tube chassis with composite body, alloy floors, inner wings, correct foot boxes etc. Dash, transmission tunnel, inner wings, bulkheads etc. all hand fabricated in alloy. Doors have the correct steel frames that you won’t find on many replicas (always a give away)
Hoyle/ Hawk tubular front suspension, fully adjustable coil overs, polly bushed, quick rack etc.
Ward Engineering rear IRS using Dana/ Salisbury diff. Wilwood brakes, correct Hallibrand FIA wheels with works type phosphor bronze spinners (£1k a set!) on Avon CR road race tyres. Correct Girling master cylinders with adjustable bias pedal box. Chassis set up with perfect 48/ 52 rear weight bias.
Engine is a freshly built 302 Ford, built around a 67 block, polished rods, forged pistons, Edelbrock RPM big valve alloy heads, Crower fast road/ race Camshaft, high pressure oil pump and Mocal cooler kit, Comp Cams roller rockers, steel pushrods, ARP bolts etc. FIA exhausts. Approx 330BHP on current single carb set up. Very tractable and road friendly
Tremec TKO gearbox with Mcloed clutch. Custom race prop and girling hydraulics, Hurst shifter.
All the correct FIA details, quick lifts, split boot lid, long range tank, T45 roll bar, correct FIA alloy dash with original 60’s Stewert Warner gauges and super rare Sun Rotunda race tachometer. Seats are Kirkey FIA race seats trimmed in leather by AC Heritage.
All electrics are the period Lucas items with a correct Lucas cloth bound loom, all lighting, switches and relays are all as you would find on an original car.
All parts are brand new / new old stock apart from diff casing and engine block.
Just under £60k in parts and at least 1500 hours went into the build. Many rare parts on this car that took some tracking down. Lots of little hard to replicate details to make it virtually indistinguishable from the real £2 million car.
Car is brand new and currently unregistered. It has been run in and has done just 250 test and set up miles. Dry miles only, it has not seen a drop of rain and has been kept in a dry garage since completion in 2020. Underside is spotless.
Performance as you can imagine is brisk, with well over 300bhp and under 1000kg.
Comes with build manual, huge file of eye watering receipts and some spares that were not used.
The lightweight Le Mans roof takes around 90 seconds to fit/ remove. There are no side screens although these are available from Gerry.
This is probably the nicest composite Cobra in the country. Incredible fun to drive, fast without being terrifying, with superb road holding and it goes without saying that it turns heads wherever it goes.
Offered for sale at £60k as is with new owner to test and register/ export, or road registered with age relate plate for £70k.
Any inspection welcome. I’m 5 minutes from the main East Coast rail line, 15 minutes from Newcastle airport, 20 mins from Ferry to Netherlands.
