Ferrari Classiche 2020 confirming matching numbers
Ordered new in December of 1971 by a gentleman from Kent via Maranello Concessionaires. Order number 551 was to be finished in Rosso Bordeaux Dino (20. R. 351) with beige (VM846) hide interior and specified with air conditioning and alloy wheels. Supplied by Maranello on 2nd March 1972, the order on file shows that he paid £10, 040, trading in his Ferrari 365 GT 2+2 with an allowance of £6, 290. The first owner retained the vehicle for a little over 2 years and then traded it in, again with Maranello Concessionaires, for the new 365 GT Berlinetta Boxer.
The second owner another gentleman from Kent, purchased the car just a few days later form Maranello, this time trading in a Dino 246 GTS. Clearly he was very fond of this car as his ownership lasted for over 14 years.
Owner number 3, a Mr Wells, purchased the car in November of 1988, and unbelievably retained the car even longer than the previous owner, owning it for 26 years before ownership was transferred to his son in 2014. During his ownership servicing was mostly carried out by noted Ferrari specialists Moto-tecnique and Foskers.
The next owners tenure was somewhat shorter, a F1 driver who likes to change his cars more regularly than previous owners. I acquired the car from him after just a few short months of ownership.
Comes complete with a most comprehensive history file, which dates back to the original order from new, detailing ownership, servicing etc. The file also contained numerous old MOT certificates, tax discs and correspondence.
A rare opportunity to acquire one of the 158 RHD examples of this iconic car. A low mileage example that has had only a low number of owners and is still presented in its original colour combination. A matching number example that has been accredited its Ferrari Classiche red book.
