This is my 1994 Mercury Silver Suzuki Cappuccino. The Suzuki Cappuccino is one of the 90’s ABC Kei car sports cars which means despite its sports car setup, this little pocket rocket still fits within the kei car 660cc engine restrictions and size limitations. Suzuki imported 1100 UK spec Cappuccinos between 93 and 95 with only 220 of these being silver. Currently there are roughly 190 cappuccinos left on UK roads so with the initial imports being a ratio of 4:1 red to silver, getting hold of an original silver model is getting increasingly impossible. Anyone who knows anything about these cars knows the list of quirky features doesn't end, one of these includes the 4 roof options that come as standard being the; hardtop, T top, targa top and full convertible.
Luckily as seen in the photos I have extensive paperwork from the day it was new including receipts, sales brochure and even the letter inviting all new owners on a road trip. If you look at the MOT history, this car is what you would expect from a over 25 year old Japanese car. The car is solid and would be a great base for a car enthusiast looking to own one of these cars who is willing to put some work into it compared to forking out up to £10k for a pristine example. This is because the car is great overall mechanical and cosmetic condition for its age however, is just starting to show through some signs of its age (more details below).
Good Bits:
The car has only 64, 600 miles, which compared to most is very low.
Most cappuccinos suffer from some regularly deteriorating details however this one still has intact roof bags, roof panels with great seals, the original antenna, working fog and reverse lights, along with both keys.
MOT till September 2021 since the last MOT it has done just over 1000 miles and had over £1500 spent on maintenance and rust repair and this includes a full service with gearbox oil flush along with a new battery. I have both drive belts brand new waiting to be put on.
Condition, the exterior bodywork has small chips, dents and scratches that you would expect from a 27yr old car but nothing extreme, the Interior is also in immaculate condition.
Rarity, with only 180 left on the road and estimated around 50 being silver this paired with the unique character of the car they are increasing in value at the same rate of most classic JDM cars.
Immobiliser, the car has had a remote immobiliser fitted since new as shown by the paperwork.
Bad Bits:
Corrosion, as with every old Japanese car unfortunately there are signs of corrosion luckily nothing has become structural or serious. In February 2021 I started the journey of fixing the corrosion starting at the worst. I spent over £1000 on getting the inner rear arches rebuilt. The other points that need attention are: Both front fenders that have signs of small corrosion in the arches and would need repairing. As seen in the pictures the sills are starting to show some surface rust so could do with being stripped back and coated before they cause any issues. The other corrosion to take note of is in the engine bay as seen in photos.
When I purchased this car a previous owner drilled and stuck a badge onto the boot. I removed this plugged both holes with paint matched caps although I have a spare silver boot I can provide that would need paint matching to replace the existing one.
There is a small chip in the windscreen which has not changed over the previous years I have owned it but may benefit from being filled.
Brakes, as seen in the MOT history the brakes could use the seals being replaced, due to the car currently sitting covered up I have not got round to this however can point you to the part supplier and options.
Tyres, they are showing signs of cracking due to age and storage so would likely need to be replaced at some point in the future.
Overall this is not the most perfect example on the market, however I am asking for a price which makes this a great fit for someone who wants to own one of these gems and is willing to put some sweat into making it their dream. The car is very solid being such low mileage and has not skipped a beat over the last few years of ownership. It never gets old seeing the shocked reactions of people trying to figure it out and I will really miss all the people who ask all about it.
