A beautifully presented 1984 Opel Manta Berlinetta 1. 8s in anthracite metallic grey (paint code 107) with an orange interior. Now a rare car with just over 200 registered with the DVLA and only 32 registered for the road.
First registered on 1 August 1984, the first day of the new “B” registration prefix, the car was initially registered in Aldershot, Surrey. On 6 November 1986, it was then sold to a gentleman in West Sussex, who kept the car for nearly 32 years, before it was sold to its third owner in 2018.
It is now rare to see an unrestored 1980s car in such clean, rust free condition. However, this car is an exception.
Overall, a unique 1980s icon that is sure to turn heads and make any owner proud.
Exterior
The car’s metallic grey paint is very good with only the odd age-related stone chip here and there.
All body and paintwork appears to be original.
The wheel arches are rust free and the sides of the body are both straight with no supermarket door dings or other unsightly marks.
Open the sunroof and you will see a perfectly preserved aperture with paint that looks factory fresh.
The engine is extremely tidy with no obvious drips or leaks and plenty of well-preserved paint.
Interior
Getting into this car is like stepping straight back into the 1980s. Its orange cloth trim is in excellent condition with only slight wear on the driver’s seat bolster.
The carpets are excellent.
The instruments and dials, while basic, all work as designed except for the headlight wipers (the washers work but the wipers don’t wipe).
The car retains its original radio and the centre console has 6 compartments in which to store your favourite cassette tapes!
The boot is similarly clean with little evidence that much has been hauled in the large load area.
Under the rear compartment hatch cover is a boot floor with a spare wheel and jack that appear never to have been used and which are both sitting in a spare wheel well that shines brightly in its original anthracite paint with no rust or evidence of water ingress.
Mechanicals
The car runs and drives beautifully. Recent service items include: four new tyres, oil and coolant change, recent battery, cam belt and water pump.
The car starts easily and once warm, the engine settles into a nice, steady tick over.
The engine pulls strongly and smoothly.
The gearbox shifts very smoothly with no crunching or obvious wear.
The car’s MOT is valid until 27 June 2022.
