For sale is my 1935 Austin Seven Ruby (also known Amelia)
I knew about this car when it was sitting in a friend’s garage, where it had stood for around 5 or so years, before that in its previous ownership it had sat in a barn for around 20 years. I purchased Amelia and undertook a small restoration. I say a small restoration as I basically got the car up to a roadworthy and usable standard. I left the paint work etc alone as I preferred the “patina”, there is no rot or serious bodywork damage at all.
I would describe Amelia as an “oily rag”, she is by no means a concours or showroom condition car however, she runs like a Swiss watch and never fails to put a smile on my face. I have covered around 1000 miles in her since getting her back on the road, she runs very well with no unwanted noises or issues and the four-speed synchromesh gearbox works a treat! The trafficators work (I replaced the bulbs with new).
The list of new parts and things I have done to her is as follows…
- New tyres
- New engine oil
- New gearbox oil
- New diff oil
- New spark plugs
- Brakes overhauled
- New battery
- All five wheels were shot blasted, powder coated & re-painted
- New clutch
- New cylinder head gasket
- New spark plug leads
- Carburetor stripped, cleaned, rebuilt & set up
I also have some extra fabric to match the green interior, I had intended to use this to repair the seats but haven’t found the time to do it & the headlining has been replaced. Furthermore, I have the side lights and some other bits and bobs to go with her.
Her previous owner had replaced the running boards, so they are in good order, he also attached a straight through exhaust system which has received comments such as “Blimey, that sounds like a Spitfire!” So naturally I left it well alone as I think it adds immense character.
The only downside or point that I would make is that somewhere she has a short in the wiring, causing a discharge when not running, I always removed a battery lead when not in use as a quick solution, but she will need to be re-wired by the new owner, this is not a large or expensive job as there aren’t many wires! again something I never got round to doing. You will also notice that the original registration (KS 6633) has been previously removed, the car now has an age related registration (TSY 792).
Overall a very usable little vintage car that attracts compliments everywhere she goes, some tinkering required but nothing too serious.

The car is located in Aberdeenshire, Scotland.
