Welcome to the sale of my replica of a race car from the one-make 1976 VW Scirocco Junior Cup series, which has covered 1000 miles since it was completed in 2016. Over £4000 was spent on parts alone and everything on the car was either new, new old stock or refurbished. The car was first displayed at the NEC Classic Motor Show in 2016 and has also been shown at Ultimate Dubs in Telford.

A walk-around video of this car is on Youtube - email me for a link.

Lots of information about the 1976 VW Scirocco Junior Cup is available on the Scirocco Register website.

The car was created using the restored shell of a 1980 Mk1 Storm (UK, RHD), with engine, gearbox and some other parts salvaged from another 1980 Mk1 Storm that was scrapped. The car has retained the identity that went with the shell. For authenticity it was converted to LHD, which also gives the benefit of a better, more direct braking system.

It currently has the perfect registration CUP 76P (a 1976 registration) which goes with the car at the asking price - if this plate is removed it will go back to a 1980/ V registration.

The project was completed at Rust Republic in Nottingham. Ant Thomas undertook the majority of the bodywork restoration, painting, assembly and finishing of the vehicle. Ant also converted the shell to left-hand drive using parts sourced from a left-hand drive shell from a contact in the UK. The dashboard and other interior trim needed for left-hand drive was imported from the Netherlands.

The seats were re-trimmed professionally by another company. New carpets and headlining came from Newton Commercial.

The vinyl graphics were printed and applied by a specialist local company.

The engine was fully rebuilt by Matt Curtis, who now works at Rust Republic, but at that time was a lecturer/ teacher of motor vehicle engineering at a college in Nottinghamshire.

I had the wheels refurbished locally to me in Bedfordshire by this Prestige Wheels.

Northampton Motorsport fitted the safety equipment including roll-cage, fire extinguisher, electrical cut-outs, towing eyes and bonnet pins. They also set up the tracking and camber of the suspension correctly and completed a rolling-road session to solve a power problem, which turned out to be due to a seized distributor. The rebuilt engine had only completed around 500 miles at this point so we didn't push too hard, but achieved just under 100 bhp at 6300 rpm. I'm confident that after more running and further tuning it would happily achieve the factory 110 bhp.

We tried to produce a car as close as we could get to the original Junior Cup spec.

This includes:

- ATS Cup alloy wheels 15" x 5. 5J, fitted with Pirelli tyres.
- Interspeed Victor steering wheel.
- Black instrument surround.
- Zender front and rear spoilers and wheel-arch extension.
- Zender 'golf ball' gear knob (new).
- Roll cage (Safety devices bolt-in FIA approved).
- Plumbed-in fire extinguisher.
- Electrical cut-outs.
- Seats retrimmed in red-stripe mk1 Golf GTI fabric (new) as a reasonable match to the unobtainable bespoke Junior Cup seat fabric.
- Suspension with Eibach lowering springs and on-car adjustable Koni dampers.

I also purchased a Recaro race seat and Sabelt 6-point harness which have not been fitted but will be included with the car.

I haven't yet been able to source a few minor trim items - I only have the correct door-card for the inside of one door, and not quite a full set of bumper end-caps for cars without a rubber strip along the length of the bumper. I will happily include the parts I do have. There should also be a spare set of the correct headlamps if I can find them.

It had been my intention to use the car for speed events like Hillclimb and Sprint, but I haven't had the time to do this and don't think it's likely in the future either. I'm sure it could be eligible for historic touring car series, but would need more power to be competitive in these events and I wanted to keep it as a more faithful replica to the original series cars.
