For sale is a rare and sought after Volvo 940 Estate (also known as a 945). I am quite fond of these Swedish boxes, and I have had quite a few of them over the years.
The previous owner had this car for almost 10 years, and was his daily driver. It has not been abused and is not the usual scruffy, battered 940 wagon that has been used as a builders workhorse!
It has just had the following:
4 Continental Winter Tyres
Major Service using Genuine Volvo Parts from Main Dealers: Mobil Oil, Oil Filter, Air Filter, Fuel Filter, Spark Plugs x 4
New Front Wiper Blades
New Rear Wiper Blade
New Sidelight Bulbs All Round
New Tailor Fit Car Mats
12 Months MOT with Zero Advisories and Clean Emissions
B230FK / 2316cc / 4 Cylinder / Turbocharged / 136 BHP / Rear Wheel Drive
Mechanically sound. Starts first turn of the key. Idles in the correct manner and ticks over quietly. No leaks. No overheating. Turbo spools up correctly.
Pulls well and has a good turn of pace. Good power throughout the rev range and happily sits at motorway speeds for hours on end. It has just been serviced, so it runs as it should. Look after these old tanks and they will go on forever.
The rare M90 5 speed manual gearbox works fine and goes through all of the gear ratios. No crunching or untoward sounds from the drive train. The clutch also bites as it should.
Suspension is smooth and supple, with no knocks or bangs. It has the relaxing and comfortable Volvo ride.
Brakes are fine and they stop the big car well. No shuddering or grinding noises.
4 New Continental Winter Tyres.
At only 127k miles, I would class this as ultra low mileage for the year and not even running in for this model. Every one of my previous 940s have had over 200k miles, and my last one was on 340k miles before I sold it. Look after these and they easily knock on the door of 500k miles.
It is finished in Tropic Green Metallic also known as Verdigris (Paint Code 412). One of the more unusual colours in the 940, and really looks special when the light hits it.
Generally in very presentable condition for the year. There is none of the usual rust or rot. The underside is rock solid. There are marks, blemishes and stone chips as to be expected. One tiny rust bubble on the rear tailgate. The OSR wheel arch has a scrape. The bumpers have some scuffs and scrapes. Paintwork has gone a bit flat and would benefit from a good polish to bring out the shine. Apart from that, it is in very good order and cleans up well.
The interior is all solid and in one piece. No major rips or tears. The door card tops are in excellent condition, and free from the typical lifting or peeling. There are a couple of cracks in the plastic and some of the seat cloth is getting loose. The seats are very supportive and extremely comfortable.
These cars are beginning to gain a bit of a cult status and are revered for being durable, dependable, reliable and practical classics. From antiques dealers, to flower shop owners, from builders to plumbers, everyone loves these 940s.
With the rear seats folded flat, they have a van-size carrying capacity and there isn't much that won't fit in a 940 estate.
They have simple but robust mechanicals and are easy to work on. They very rarely go wrong and the B230FK red block engine is a strong unit. They are also highly regarded on the drift scene, as the engine is capable of tolerating heavy tuning and big BHP.
Air conditioning is nice and cold - very hard to find on one of these.
Everything in the car works as it should. There are no warning lights on the dashboard cluster. The rev counter and fuel gauge are intermittent, and there seems to be a loose connection somewhere. Speedo and temp gauge are fine.
