Regretfully today’s youth – in the main – give credit for the Mini to BMW! – thankfully, nothing is farther from the truth. Issigonis original design remains the preferred option by many, and prices certainly bear this out! 60’s competition Cooper S cars have now topped the £100k mark – with standard ‘S’ cars reaching £60k.
In 1971, under BL ownership, Roy Haynes redesigned the cars front end which initially became known as the 998 cc Mini Clubman, eventually morphing into the Mini 1275 GT. The standard Mini Cooper S was discontinued in 1971 & the 1275 GT remained the only ‘Sporting’ Mini for the rest of this decade!
There is an old adage that states ‘colour sells a car’ & this is certainly true when it comes to our very rare ‘Java Green’ 1275 GT.
Fully restored some 10 years ago with minimal mileage since – & currently indicating a mere 78k miles over a 42 year period. The underside is body coloured with fine solid subframes. The interior has been expensively refurbished with the addition of Contour basket weave rally seats with matching door cards, a new Newton carpet set & the preferred Moto Lita woodrim steering wheel. Comes complete with Heritage certification & current MOT to 2022
We have sold many early Mini’s – but this example seems to create all the interest – perhaps it is the colour!!
