Description

For sale.. Rare Racecorp LA / Eldon Autokits Sevenesque kit car. Like a Caterham Westfield etc.
Racecorp designed and built this 7 lookalike in the 1980's/ 90’s (?) as a sideline to their main business of racecars for the Italian market (formula ford?). Eldon Autokits was founded in 1993 and took over the project from Racecorp and started producing cars and kits . The brand name was Eldon. Production ended in 1999 when about 57 copies were made. Razer Sports Cars took over the project and continued production under its own brand name from 2003.
Now the original Dutch agent for Eldon has bought the rights and is supporting it. For more information please Google eldonroadster. nl and the youtube video “the eldon roadster is back”.
Racecorp was a F1 support company and had some links the Arrows team (?) but is unclear to me exactly who or what.
The car itself is well built and well designed, being a super stiff square tube spaceframe with GRP (polyester?) body panels. It has adjustable coilover suspension and rose-jointed wishbones fore and aft. The front discs are drilled and grooved while the rears are drum brakes.
It is powered by a 2 litre for Pinto engine matched to the type 9 5 speed gearbox and a Sierra (?) final drive unit. The engine has twin Dellorto carburetors and a 4 branch exhaust manifold.
I believe this car was a track day car and the previous owner updated it for road use with a modern GBS wiring harness and road legal lights etc. Even the business about the fog lamp being controlled by the main headlights has been sorted.
The car is not registered for the road (yet) needing to pass the IVA first, although I believe the majority of the work is done properly for that. Bits missing that I am aware of are a secondary locking / antitheft device (e. g. steering lock or immobilizer). And some of the thin edges on the carbon fibre lookalike mudguards need protective edging strips applied.
I bought the car as a lockdown project to refurbish and renovate. The work I have had done to date is mainly the refurbishment of the cylinder head (by Grace Engine Developments) to correct a low compression reading and to make it unleaded compatible. I have installed a new standard Pinto camshaft and rockers, and I have also corrected some issues with the carbs, mainly cleaning and properly balancing them. There was a small amount of paintwork to tidy up.
I am selling the car as the project is now complete from my point of view (I never intended to drive it just preferring to enjoy the mechanics side of things). And now I need the space in the garage (and the cash) for the next project which is a MX5 engined Robin Hood.
The car is able to be driven in my short drive, but you will need to transport it away because it is not road registered. Located Near Newbury Berkshire by the M4 A34 junction.
There are some extra bits to go with, namely a cut down sump, a front screen (frame and glass) and a wet weather cover (which won’t fit without the front screen).
All enquiries or even extra info on the Eldon are welcome.
