14, 410 miles from new.
Supplied new on the 13th of March 1970 by Cleveland Garages Limited, Jersey, where it has remained, never having been off the Island until this Autumn. Owned by the same family from new until 2006, whereupon it has stayed in careful and correct storage in the hands of a collector.
Finished in Glacier white with Blue interior, these Vanden Plas were offered with only four factory options, Automatic Transmission, heated rear window, Sliding metal sunroof and a Radio. This car was ordered with 3 of those period features, only missing out on the radio.
Clearly a very lightly used car, which was a much loved member of the family for several decades. Untouched in so many ways, with a time warp interior, an engine which is incredibly smooth and quiet, perfect gear changes, a boot compartment that has not seen luggage.......
The bodywork is straight, rust free and every weld is from the factory, it's all still sharp and untouched. There has been some paint rectification, though certainly none in the past 25 years, and the occasional blemish which is where the paintwork has been rubbed through due to an over enthusiastic amount of polishing! The chrome work is good, commensurate with a low mileage 50 year old car. The wheels are original and still perfect, fitted with what I think is its original Dunlop D75 cross ply tyres at the front, safe to assume these are the one's it had on when it left the factory.
A considerable amount of recommissioning has recently been undertaken, such as the replacement of the original factory exhaust, overhaul of the charging system, a new fuel tank sender, full service, water pump, thermostat etc, the replacement of consumable items to enable the car to be reliable and enjoyed. It is always a first time starter, and is an absolute joy to drive, although can be somewhat exciting on the crossply tyres!
The original owner had fitted when new, a Bradex BMC fire extinguisher, 5 inches tall, so i guess he could put out a match should it get out of control, and a Paddy Hopkirk accelerator pedal, he clearly had a sense of humour.
A rare find with some unusual features and an originality that a restored car can never replicate, even more important when considering these cars were hand crafted when the body shells arrived at Kingsbury for fitting out.
With regards to registration and a mainland registration number, I am happy to help with this, I have all the correct paperwork to hand, and can do this for the new owner should they wish me to do so.. All import duties have been paid, the Nova letter is in the history file, it is ready to be registered onto an age related number plate......
