AH Frogeye Sprite: Restored South African Car
The “Frogeye” Sprite was announced to the press at the Monaco GP in May 1958. Manufactured at the MG factory it was the first volume production car in the world to use unitary construction and the result was a superb car with engaging performance and go-cart handling for the princely sum of £699
Milestones are delighted to market one of the straightest Frogeye Sprites that you could wish to own. The Sprite was originally exported to South Africa in 1959 as a righthand drive CKD car and repatriated into the UK during 2000.
The car has certainly benefited from 40 years in the dry South African climate and presents extremely well with super straight (all steel) panels and no corrosion – unlike most UK cars.
The current owner, a lifelong car enthusiast, purchased the Frogeye in 2014 and has lavished significant time and money on the car since. The history folder contains all invoices, registration document, photographs of the restoration etc. during his custodianship.

· 2015 – Car stripped - Full bare metal respray.

· 2016 – Radiator Grill, Anti-Rollbar, Wiper Motor, O/ Riders, Interior.
· 2017 – Rebuilt (1275cc) Engine & Gearbox, Distributor, Wood Rim S/ Wheel.
· 2018 – Exhaust/ Silencer, Carbs Rebuilt, Rev Counter
· 2019 – Bonnet Alignment, Tyres
The Sprite also benefits from a new wiring loom, side-screens & hood, disc-brake conversion with brake servo to cope with the upgraded engine/ gearbox and runs on a set of minilite style wheels – she looks very sharp
On the road the car does not disappoint with brisk performance, excellent brakes, superb handling and addictive exhaust note. The new interior and restored bodywork have mellowed extremely well, the test of any restoration, and today the car looks as good as she drives – you will smile while behind the wheel, this is the essence of classic car ownership.
