Rover P5 3-litre
This Mark II Rover P5 comes from a personal classic car collection. There are only 65 of these P5s known to survive in the UK from the original 15, 000 or so produced between 1962 and 1965.
The car has covered just 50, 000 miles in more than half a century, and comes with a Heritage Trust Certificate stating that the car was exported to Hong Kong brand new, where it became a member of the British Governor of Hong Kong's car fleet! These P5 3-litre luxury saloons were much beloved as transport for dignitaries, according to Wikipedia, "amongst them British Prime Ministers from Harold Wilson to Margaret Thatcher. HM The Queen also used several Rover P5 cars for her private motoring."
The car came back to these shores in 2008 corrosion-free, and the underside has been wax-oiled to preserve it in quite incredible condition. Very seldom do cars comne to us in such original condition, this particular P5 has clearly been very well cared-for with no expense spared. Even the original chromework is in excellent condition, with the wheel arches and sills marvellously sharp.
The straight six 3-litre engine is superb, and runs powerfully but smooth and gives a real executive feel to the drive. The manual gearbox delivers clean precise changes, and a much more fine-grained control for the driver and a more engaged feel to the car. Boasting a very impressive 129HP, this car has absolutely no problem keeping up with modern traffic.
The interior is in beautiful original condition, in a striking regal red colour, with much-enjoyed leather seats and armrests front and back for a real magisterial ride quality. The comfort factor is helped by the optional Hydrosteer power-assisted steering. The dashboard and instrument panel are in fine order and the wooden trim around the doors is in keeping with the car's luxury saloon trim.
The vehicle comes with an interesting number plate as well.
It is now extremely unusual to find one of these rare cars in such exceptional condition, and together with its prestigious history, this Rover P5 3-litre saloon ticks all the boxes as a classic limousine.
