With only 109 RHD versions of the 156 GTA made, this is now a rare and sought-after car, and its overall condition and service history make this one a very attractive proposition for those seeking a distinctive, usable and quick modern classic particularly with the upgrades under the bonnet only enhancing what was already renowned performance. Plus, there’s that gorgeous engine sound with the acclaimed 3. 2 Bussone engine, renowned for its sound and its revving ability (“arguably…one of the most exciting ever produced”, according to motoring website Pistonheads).
THE MECHANICALS
The engine has had numerous thoughtful upgrades:
- a Viper induction kit
- Ferrari f430 throttle body
- ACT carbon-fiber plenum (for increased power and torque delivery)
- ECU remap to match these
- Ragazzon quad exhaust which sounds fantastic
- Upgraded front Brembo brakes.
The car has also been fitted with the gearbox from the Alfa 2. 5 V6 engine, to provide better acceleration.
In the last 20, 000 miles the car has been fitted with a new clutch and slave cylinder, a new radiator, the oil cooler has been replaced, as have the gearbox seals, head gaskets and exhaust flexis. The timing belt and followers were replaced in January 2021 (at 112, 000 miles). Brand new rear calipers, discs and pads have just been fitted as well as hand brake cable.
THE EXTERIOR
The exterior of the car is in good condition with no signs of the colour fade/ peeled lacquer and the car has recently been professionally machine polished and treated with GTechniq ceramic paint-protection coating.
The original wheels have been replaced with 19” TI-style alloy wheels which are unmarked and have recently been resprayed in Lamborghini Satin Bronze. The original wheels, unmarked 17” Teledials are also available by separate negotiation fully shod in nearly new tyres.
The rear and rear passenger windows are tinted.
THE INTERIOR
Again, the condition of the interior belies the car’s mileage. The leather seats show few signs of wear and they have recently been professionally reconditioned with O’Rourke Coachtrimmers’ Leather Balm and Protect. The dashboard and centre console are in fine condition and all the switchgear and displays work.
The 156 GTAs were renowned for their eight-speaker Bose sound system and there is also a hands-free Bluetooth connection kit, to allow for music and phone calls through a smartphone.
The carpets are in very good condition, and the interior door panels look almost immaculate.
