1955 James J9 Commando 197cc Villiers Pre-65 Trials Bike 3-Speed, Maroon Colour - Running
Renee Bennett's 3-speed Commando, modified for trials events. Significant amount of researchable competition history. The old photo is of Renee on this actual bike in 1961.
Put away in 1963 and just started the bike up again this year. This was Renee Bennett's first trials bike and is still owned by her now. Renee is well-known in the trials world as the '1960s housewife trials rider', with articles and video clips available online. The bike has been stored at Howard Powell Motorcycles (East Ham) for many years now, but Renee would like to make space in the shop and no longer feels the need to keep this bike.
We have recently got the bike running which did not require much effort - videos available of how it starts and runs! The odometer states 13, 312 miles. Original 197cc Villiers engine. The reg on the bike is DYK 728. Detailed receipt will be provided when the bike is sold but there is no V5 present. Original maroon colour. Original Dunlop Trials Universal tyres. Approx 2 1/ 4 gallon tank and unleaded petrol causes no problems. The bike starts and runs well.
For full disclosure, in 2003/ 04 Howard Powell Motorcycles sustained a shop fire in which this bike received cosmetic damage, confirmed by Cheffins inspection. Cheffins Auctioneers also state that most of the metal components seem undamaged. Please also note that the front nearside crankcase lug appears to be in half (pictured), which does not affect functionality.
