EXTERIOR
Having resided on Japan's unsalted roads since new, this handsome 4-litre Sport remains in excellent rust-free condition throughout, including the underside. Subtly upgraded with chunkier tyres and an elevated stance, it really looks the part. The Flame Red paintwork presents in good original condition with no signs of any damage or previous poor repair, the plastic wheel arches still look new, and the metal bumpers are entirely scuff-free. The removable soft-top looks great in tan although with age the canvas has become slightly brittle and the windows a little cloudy.
INTERIOR
The tan vinyl upholstery presents really well with no signs of heavy use, even to commonly worn areas such as the seat bolsters which are entirely undamaged. The steering wheel is in excellent original condition, as are the door cards and centre console, with only a few discreet marks to report on close inspection. At the rear of the car the seats are perfectly presented, and the boot area is also notably tidy. All in all, a very sound and highly original interior, the only upgrade over standard being a later style Kenwood head unit.
ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION
The Sport's 4-litre straight-six starts up first turn of the key and idles smoothly up to temperature. Lifting the bonnet the engine bay is extremely clean, remaining in superb original condition with no signs of any rust.
The diff and 4x4 system all work as they should, although given the condition of the vehicle they have probably seen little use. The automatic gearbox operates well and handles the engine's power perfectly through the gears. Since arriving with us the car has been fully inspected and freshly serviced for the new keeper's peace of mind.
WHEELS, TYRES AND BRAKES
The Wrangler sits on gloss black Daytona steel wheels, all in lovely undamaged condition; they are wrapped in a matching set of chunky BF Goodrich tyres with plenty of tread left. The brakes have also been checked and remain in fine operational condition; new front discs and pads have just been fitted at the current mileage.
HISTORY FILE
First registered in Japan in June 1997 this early TJ Wrangler has now driven just 46k miles. It has only very recently landed in the UK with all taxes and duties paid on entry. Since arriving with us the car has been mechanically inspected and serviced accordingly, ready for its next adventure. A limited amount of paperwork is available with the car but the condition really speaks for itself. UK registration will be carried out prior to sale.
