It is rare to find a really good air-cooled Porsche 911 for under £35, 000 but this 1985 Carrera 3. 2 Targa certainly is. It is a delight to drive and feels really well sorted, with a strong engine and good gearbox. The numbers matching engine was rebuilt by Porsche specialist JZ Machtech 50, 000 miles ago, with receipts and photographs detailing the work, so you can ignore the mileage on the clock – not only does the engine feel fresh and pull strongly, much of the rest of the car has been restored, too, making a superb example for a great price.
The Porsche comes with a massive history file, detailing all work done to the car over the years – and it’s an impressive read. Recent work of note includes a new clutch, four new Bilstein dampers, new engine ‘tinware’, new oil seals, gearbox oil change, new fuel tank and new rear lights were fitted.
With the current custodian the car has benefitted from replacement inner / outer sills and kidney bowls, new battery and refurbished flywheel.
The bodywork is finished in rare and eye-catching Prussian Blue Metallic which offsets the original and recently refurbished (powder coated) Fuchs wheels. Front and rear spoilers were factory options when new and were specified with this car, along with a limited slip differential. While the original ‘elephant ear’ door mirrors have been replaced with the more expensive ‘Cup’ style design (the originals will be supplied with the car) it is no surprise this Porsche has been featured in GT Porsche magazine.
Inside, the car boasts blue leather seats with contrasting white piping, all of which is in good condition. The Targa roof is also in good condition. Cosmetic changes internally of note include a new Momo Prototipo steering, along with an ebony and walnut laminated gear knob which gives a nod to the 917 racing cars.
Overall a used, maintained and loved car which unfortunately must be sold to help fund a property project.
The car will be sold with a 12 month MOT, car cover and the original "Lozenge" style steering wheel.
