We are delighted to present for sale this very high specification Land Rover® Series 2a, presented in rare Mid Grey colour scheme, with Limestone Wheels. We rarely see a vehicle with such a specification of parts in one package – especially not with the documentation to verify mileages etc – read on!

Externally, there are lots of desirable period features – the bonnet mounted spare, front towball, original glass lenses, twin wipers (option in 1959), rear mud flaps and rear grab handles to name just a few items. This has been coupled to lots of desirable ‘modern’ extras – the rear step to get in and out of the rear easily, side steps for the front and passenger doors, the rear towball with 12v electrics, larger door mirrors for better visibility and a canvas with side windows too. The culmination of all of this with the grey colour scheme makes, in our opinion, a really handsome vehicle indeed. The bodywork is of a sprayed finish too, which is good to see.

On the inside, there are 3 standard front seats, with deluxe matting to the footwells. It is great to see that the features of an early Series 2 still exist – the individual twin wiper motors, three spoke steering wheel and the horn on a stalk to the RHS of the steering wheel. There is an uprated ‘arctic’ heater fitted to the passenger footwell, with front demist vents to the screen, which will be appreciated greatly in the winter months. In the rear, there are a pair of twin bench seats with a load mat to the floor to protect against scratches. An additional rear heater is fitted, which runs together with the front Arctic one, meaning that all passengers can be warm in the winter – this is a fantastic solution and it really does get warm in this truck with the blower on max – and is something the kids and dogs can appreciate…. there is a safety guard fitted too to prevent burns and cuts. The canvas with side windows gives a much improved ‘airy’ feel to the cabin, something which really improves the rear experience and helps with checking your blindspot too.

Out on the road though, is where this Series 2 Land Rover® really impresses – there is a dossier of very important receipts denoting the engine mileage, works completed, a reconditioned gearbox and servicing work – we almost never get these documents and it is fantastic to see they are supplied with it. We are not sure what has been done to this TDi engine, but it really is one of the fastest we’ve ever had – we’ve clocked it on our nearby airfield at almost 80mph using a GPS system, and it still wanted to keep going! It is extremely impressive for a Series Land Rover® to be able to achieve these speeds, especially on original 600 tyres. These 600 tyres also give the benefit of light steering – normally to get this level of speed larger tyres are required to extend the gearing, thus making the steering heavier, but there are no such problems here. The overdrive is very much needed and allows the exploitation of the additional power. The gearbox feels tight, and that is likely due to the recondition completed in 2014. It gives the best possible driving experience of any Series in the TDi format we’ve ever had the pleasure of selling – and will go far faster than you’ll ever want to.

In summary, if you are looking for a Series 2 Land Rover® with that cool vintage look, but that can really cope with the demands of more modern traffic situations, this is for you. With seven seats, not only can the whole family come along for the ride, but they’ll also be warm from the additional heating solutions and also be able to see out, too. Series Land Rovers® such as this do not come along very often, providing the very best compromise that a Series Land Rover® can in the modern era.
