This highly desirable MKI Zephyr Six was first registered on the 22nd September 1955 and supplied new in Dorchester Grey . It was a car we sold earlier this year, but unfortunately the new owner has had recent health issues which means he is unable to drive the car, hence we have it back for sale
We have history dating back to 1966 in the form of a continuation logbook and know the Ford was owned by a lady in Horspath, Oxon during the mid-1960’s. The car stayed in the Oxford area until 1970 when it was sold to a gentleman in Carnforth, Lancashire. From the paperwork, we know the car was off the road between 1980 and 1987 and had to be re-registered with the DVLA in Manchester as computerised systems were in place by the time this Zephyr was back on the road. The Zephyr stayed in Lancashire until selling to the last owner in 1996. We have MOT certificates dating back to 1968 and an original Regent Petrol and Oil log sheet that keeps mileage records from 1966 to 1970.
GSU 460 has spent the past 20 plus years with a keen classic car enthusiast who has spent thousands of pounds restoring this lovely example. We believe the car has engine work during the late 1980's and after spending more time off the road during the 1990's, the car was sympathetically restored and put back on the road by 1999. The restoration began with bodywork and four new wings were sourced in New Zealand and shipped over to the UK. Four old stock factory doors were purchased from a supplier in Australia and the body then rebuilt to a very good standard and finished with two tone paintwork.
Much of the chrome was renewed and the whole braking system re-commissioned. The suspension was treated to new front springs and polyurethane bushes and an overdrive unit fitted. 5 new tyres were purchased and the interior fully re-trimmed at a cost of £2500.
Since completion the car has covered just a few thousand miles and drives beautifully. The 2262cc engine pulls superbly and is very strong. The engine has no knocks or rattles, does not smoke and runs perfectly. Performance from the six cylinder engine is excellent and three speed column change gearbox is nice and smooth and does not jump out of gear. Handling, steering and suspension all feel excellent
The presentation of the car is very good with a strong, solid body. The panels are exceptionally straight and older paintwork is still very presentable. The underside is very strong and the engine bay appears very original and is nicely presented.
The interior is stunning with beautiful re-trimmed seats, door cards, headlining and carpets - even the boot has been professionally trimmed and presents superbly.
On the whole this is a superb, honest, strong useable Zephyr that is ready to use and enjoy.
