Description
Standard Flying 12 – 1939 Prototype - Only Example
Milestone Classics are delighted to offer for sale this unique Standard Flying 12. The car (one of six) was manufactured with a prototype body utilising the 1938 chassis in order to appraise the car prior to full scale production.
The previous owner, a time served tool maker/ production engineer, purchased the car in 1996 as a retirement project and commenced a full nut and bolt restoration with assistance from former colleagues and friends. The result is a testament to the group’s knowledge, skill and friendship – it is simply stunning.
There were no half measures.
· The body was removed from the chassis, all corrosion removed, and re-painted in period maroon/ black. All components were painted and all bright work re-chromed
· All mechanical components were inspected/ overhauled/ replaced as required. This included a full engine rebuild and gearbox/ rear axle overhaul
· The interior was completely re-trimmed in leather with new seats, door cards, carpets, and roof lining.
· Pictures of the restoration/ large history file/ lots of paperwork
On completion in 2003 the Flying 12 completed over 27, 000 miles (including three trips to the Shetland Islands), won many prizes and was simply the pride and joy of the owner.
The Standard originally found her way to Milestones around two years ago. We were delighted to take the car back in part-exchange for our Austin 10 from a regular customer who likes the quality of the cars we market and level of service we provide.
Cars of this quality rarely come to market. This is the only surviving prototype and we expect this superb example to quickly find an appreciative new owner very quickly.
