1950 Jaguar Mark V
The Jaguar Mark V was introduced to distributors and the Press on 30 September 1948 and launched on 27 October 1948 at the London Motor Show at the same time as the announcement of the XK120, with which it shared a stand. The XK120, though not quite ready for production, was the star of the show. However, the Mark V vastly outsold the XK120 by roughly 5, 000 cars per year. The Mark V was the first Jaguar with independent front suspension, first with hydraulic brakes, first with spats and first specifically designed to be produced in both Right and Left Hand Drive configurations.
This stunning New Zealand new example was sold by Archibalds in Christchurch in 1950. The car has lived its life since in the South Island and has clearly led a very privileged life. Having been fastidiously maintained, this manual with overdrive car certainly comes into its own once out on the open road. The large factory sunroof also adds to the driving satisfaction of this truly beautiful car.
Retrimmed to the highest standard in 2007, this car not only has a beautiful mellow patina but presents extremely well. This certainly is a car to just drive and enjoy, having been maintained to the highest standard and the recipient of an engine rebuild and recent substantial brake overhaul.
This car must be driven to truly be appreciated.
