Unwelded & Unmolested Chassis. 167, 350 miles – circa 7000 miles per annum, with the bulk of these miles having a stamped main dealer service logbook. Sony Bluetooth Stereo w/ 6 CD autochanger. Locking Wheel Nuts. Bulbar with Spot lamps.
We are delighted to present for sale this TD5 County Station Wagon, in completely original condition, having never been resprayed, or chassis having been welded.
Externally, as can be seen from the photos this vehicle has survived in a condition rarely seen on a vehicle of this age – it is clear from all the information we hold that this vehicle has been very well looked after and maintained and only sports the inherent catalytic marks and the odd imperfection would expect to see on a 22 year old Land Rover®. The paintwork really does shine and as a genuine station wagon, this vehicle really does look the part. It has a raft of the genuine station wagon features – the stainless steel side steps, alloys, bulbar, spot lamps (working), Land Rover® Roof Rack, rear step, rear mudflaps etc etc. There is a John Brown 4×4 Wheel Cover on the spare tyre, which is correctly housed on the rear door.
The interior of the vehicle reflects the exterior – all original and in really good condition – even down to the original floor mats, front and rear. So often with a TD5 of this age, the interior trim suffers through reckless use, and many items are often tampered with or missing – so it is so nice to see this almost museum quality interior surviving…. it is just like going back in time 20 years. As with a genuine station wagon, there are 4 matching tip ups all with seat belts in the rear, with sliding windows and alpine lights. It is a truly lovely place to sit.
The theme of preservation continues underneath this vehicle, with the protected chassis never having required a welded repair. This is almost unheard of, and points to a vehicle which has been protected and used in a sympathetic way during favourable weather conditions.
Out on the road, this TD5 performs faultlessly and is an absolute joy to drive. All this comes despite the 167, 000 miles on the clock, perhaps because of the impeccable service history record and catalogue of receipts and MOTs. We always tend to find as long as high mileage vehicles have had the required main dealer attention, that they last well and still feel ‘tight’ – obviously when maintained in a manner that this vehicle has been, items get repaired and replaced as and when along with jumping through the hoops of the main dealer schedule of maintenance works. In short, this vehicle performs just as it should and any interested party in acquiring a genuine TD5 station wagon should not be put off by what is, in truth, a low annual mileage since new – and in our opinion, far better that it be used constantly and regularly than have a lower mileage but perhaps having been left unused for longer periods of time.
In summary, if you are looking to enter the expensive world of Defender 90 ownership, but do not have the £100, 000+ required to buy some tarted-up, used examples, then we think this is a great value way of getting into the ownership of a genuine station wagon, in genuine and original condition. This could be one for the family, or indeed for the collector. Classic insurance should become due in 2025, to aid running costs further.
