HERE is yet another 1950s vehicle from my very own classic car stable. As ever, my prices offer what arguably may be the best value for money classics in the UK. My business has celebrated 15 years of successfully sourcing antique vehicles and then re-homing them with their happy new owners. So now, here is my 1959 Humber Hawk Series 1. She has been treated to a quality re spray in her original livery of true 1950s blue. Her engine bay and boot area - clearly never painted since new - are the same shade.
The underside of this car is totally original and has to be seen to be believed.
These luxury Rootes Group cars were the bees' knees back in the day. Highly influenced by designs of American cars, the Series 1 Hawk came with both wraparound windscreen and rear window, both of which would be "lost" some way along the production line over the next few years. This early model was also treated to high quality leather as opposed to later Hawks who were given vinyl.
This delightful old girl was had just two owners from new. The original for 35 years and the second for 28. She has covered a mere 32, 000 miles in 63 years and there is a letter in the file to substantiate this.
Bodily, she is superb in her 1950s shade of blue with contrasting red leather. The panels - in my opinion - are all original and she is as solid as a rock. Having been dry stored for the past 20-plus years, she starts willingly although the clutch will need attention in order to get her moving. The column change moves extremely smoothly and she has brakes. The water pump is noisy. Her interior is stunning with that typical Rootes Group dash and high quality and undamaged leather. A small part of the dash top has become brittle and fallen away. You would entrust a trimmer to fit a new piece of vinyl across the top from door to door. This is a really rare opportunity to acquire an early Hawk with that tried and tested Rootes 2. 3 engine (2267cc). My price reflects the fact that she needs a couple of small jobs as mentioned.
My classic cars are motoring antiques. Please do not confuse them with your one-year-old Range Rover. This car, for example, is 63-years-old and so will have quirks and faults in there somewhere. These are not always apparent when buying and selling classics which is what I do. I do not restore them, nor do I pretend that they are concours cars. The majority of them go out as they came in, and I continue to enjoy finding more - a skill which is becoming increasingly difficult as many of you will be aware. They deserve to be taken on as "family pets" and cared for through thick and then. They don't make them any more and demand now out-strips supply. Please bear all this in mind, and enjoy your classic car. I can also assist with delivery and so please ask for a quote. Thanks, Martin. the details below.
