We are delighted to present for sale this fully restored and ready to go Nut & Bolt Rebuild from the John Brown 4×4 Team.
Much of what we do here is concerned with rebuilding Vintage Land Rovers®, and we have a long customer list of those awaiting bespoke and customised rebuilds extending to around a 2 year waiting list. It is therefore very unusual that we should have one of our rebuilds available on general sale. This is because, on numerous occasions, we have been asked what our restored vehicles might look like in their finished format and so we decided to produce a vehicle that can, until sold, adorn the showroom floor and be a reference point for those interested in a rebuilt Series Land Rover®. We have therefore rebuilt this vehicle as a showpiece, without regard for total cost – and we have stuck to the popular Deep Bronze Green colour scheme with full soft top in petrol configuration.
These rebuilds begin with an unrestored, complete vehicle…. in this case a 3 former keeper 1963 Series 2a Land Rover®. The whole vehicle is then disassembled piece by piece. The reassembly process begins with a brand new, galvanised chassis, to which the combination of brand new and fully restored parts are added. In the case of this vehicle, any parts which could not be restored to like new standard were replaced with new. The result is a vehicle which looks like it has just rolled off the factory line in Solihull almost 70 years ago.
As can be seen from the photographs, the vehicle now looks stunning and is ready for the next 70 years. We have kept the vehicle largely standard throughout, as that is how they seem to feel best, but we have swapped out the rudimentary leaf springs for more compliant parabolics, giving a much improved ride. We have also added a new replacement heater (which is guaranteed not to leak!) and give welcome warmth to the cabin when in winter use. We have also fitted an uprated Weber Carburettor which promises slightly better performance and fuel consumption over standard.
What perhaps sets this build out from others we’ve completed is the increased use of brand new body panels to eradicate ripples, dents and panel fit issues – just about every exterior panel on this vehicle is a brand new replacement item. This is what gives this vehicle the ‘edge’ over its restored counterparts – such a vehicle provided at this standard through competitors, most of whom are internationally based companies, would retail in the £80, 000+ price bracket.
