LEYLAND MINI 1000 R1 FWD 1976
This fantastic R1 Engined Front wheel drive mini was built from a bare shell between 2009 and 2014. From there on in it was developed to the formidable package it is today.
It really was built with the end in mind which was as light as possible with reliable high power engine matched with perfected handling but looking as “normal as possible to a standard mini”.
Sadly I have to move it on, I intended to sprint , hillclimb and track it but my work commitments just doesn’t allow it and I’d rather it got more regular use.
It is a well known car and I (like the previous owner) like things to be “just right” so I set about refining and renewing bits and pieces to further evolve the car with some of the following changes/ preventative maintenance all completed over the last 2 yrs I had it.
Things I’ve carried out.
Replaced all fuel lines to R9 spec for safety
New chain, proper Regina drag chain(with spare and spare links)
2 Tillett B6 screamer FIA approved seats
New battery (lithium fitted was light but a bit weedy)
Handbrake fitted
New clutch master and slave
Front suspension stripped and rebuilt with new knuckles
Serviced with oil and filter and brake fluid in last 50 miles
New injectors
New pressure sender
New fuel pump and hi flow filter
New plugs
New upgraded driveshafts and new cv joints.

Set of correct wheelnuts to suit
1 have various sprockets so gearing can be
adjusted from 90mph MAX to theoretical
135mph. I have a gearing calculator which I
will give to the new buyer on a USB stick. The
gearing can be changed in 5 minutes with a
13mm spanner.
I have the build sheet for the car and you could easily work out the cost to replicate and I could split it for parts and comfortably make the list price I am asking, and then some, but I really would rather not do that. I would much rather it stay complete and someone else enjoy it.
Take it to your local track day and upset a few people ????
Although road legal, the mini is very stiff, loud & low to the ground running proper camber so I highly recommend taking the car away on a trailer.
It’s had a couple of different sets of arches on it so some marks around wings but it’s a brilliant looking machine designed around performance and primarily some playful handling rather than posing.

Please don’t confuse with a cobbled together conversion and please be aware all the required parts have been upgraded so everything is fit for purpose.
