Here we have for sale a beautiful and exceptionally rare 2008 XS Station Wagon, finished in Java Black with Boost Alloys and Chrome Side Steps.
Externally, as can be seen from the photos, this vehicle is very well presented with a few age related marks in the paint as one would expect from a 14 year old vehicle. As well as the standard XS external package that this vehicle comes with, there are some auxilary front spots fitted, lamp guards, height adjustable Tow Bar with electrics, reversing camera, dash cam and wind deflectors for the front doors. The doors are also further protected from theft with a mechanical deadlock system which effectively bars entry to the vehicle. Coupled to this is the standard Land Rover® Alarm and Immobiliser, plus an additional Clifford Perimeter Alarm System which gives an audible warning when anybody stands too close to the vehicle – very cool stuff! The rear station wagon windows are tinted for privacy and gives the vehicle a real ‘stealth’ appearance.
The interior houses the usual XS leather seating with matching folding forward facing seats in the rear. This affords seating for four people and allows children and car seats to be legally fitted as opposed to the side facing seats, which do not. There is a good quality Pioneer Bluetooth Stereo fitted with phone charging capabilities and phone mount, and there are also the useful additional reversing camera screen and dashboard camera system. The reversing camera automatically activated when reverse is selected, and everything works as it should. The XS package means that this factory station wagon is about as high specification as any Land Rover® Defender that rolled off the production line with electric windows, heated seats, air conditioning and remote control central locking. The Ashcroft Conversion is beautifully manufactured to a high specification and looks as though it was factory fitted, rather than some automatic modifications which are somewhat homemade.
Where this XS really shines is out on the road, and the driving experience that is derived from the 2. 4TDCI engine, mated to that superb automatic gearbox. Over the years, we have owned and run several automatic conversions and always found them to be sluggish, jerky, slow to shift and generally a little rudimentary – not so in this vehicle! The extra horsepower from the professionally chipped engine, mated to the fast changing and slick gearbox, is an absolute joy to drive…. it is so good, it feels like this was always a factory automatic station wagon. This vehicle was driven in by one of our staff some 200 miles without any issues whatsoever – as though it were a new car. The mileage is reasonably low for age, and, because of the full service history and maintenance, it feels like new. We contacted Ashcroft Transmissions to gain more information about these conversions, and are informed that they are firstly not currently in stock, have a 3 month wait time, and the fitted cost is over £12, 000 including VAT. In other words, if you want to drive a modern and luxurious XS 90 with an automatic gearbox, then this has to be considered a cost-effective way of doing so. What is also pleasing to note is that the vehicle underside has been kept clean and protected and looks as good as the day it rolled out of the factory. It clearly has not been used in a harsh environment or on salty roads, so it is an ideal vehicle to keep long-term, safe in the knowledge that it is in tip-top condition.
In summary, this is a very rare opportunity to buy an almost unique vehicle in superb overall condition for its age. It is absolutely ready to be owned, driven and loved by its next lucky owner. We feel we have priced this vehicle fairly, in line with the current XS values and allowing for the conversion costs to automatic – and in the process, one would also acquire all the optional extras that have been fitted to this vehicle, not least the extensive additional security measures to ensure it will stay on your drive overnight!
