Here we have for sale this low mileage 1986 Land Rover 90, presented in Keswick Green with Sand Canvas & Boost Alloy Wheels. This particular example only has 68, 350 miles on the clock, which equates to just 1752 miles per year since new in 1986. There are some hallmarks back to its original life as a British military vehicle – namely the “screw lenses” to allow easier bulb changes – this Land Rover was not actually released from the army until 2012, which is certainly the reason for its low mileage and mechanical condition. On the inside, there are a pair of deluxe high back seats, with central cubby box, complete with cup holders, which is handy for the drive through. Deluxe matting is fitted to the floors, and there is a seat belt bar for 3 point inertia reel seat belts for the driver and passengers, as well as a safety roll over hoop to protect the occupants. As can be seen from the photos, this vehicle benefits from our wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto system – this brings the interior right up to date, and transforms the ownership experience…. now you can experience classic cool, whilst having Google Maps & Spotify. These can be folded away to reveal the entire load space, should you require it for a dog, a bike or a picnic set!
Out on the road, this military Land Rover gives a dependable drive…. it starts on the button very easily with no smoke from cold and ticks over reassuringly. Whilst it is not going to win any drag races, theres a pleasant and reassuring feel to the rugged, low mileage, diesel unit. It just pulls and pulls and feels like it will go on forever! In the not too distant future, this 90 will qualify for historic status, meaning no road tax or required MOT. At the moment of writing this advert, we are at a real transitional point with this law because we are on the crossover between the Series marque and the Land Rover 90/ Defender for exemption qualification. The Land Rover community is aware that it is now possible to drive tax free and without the need for an MOT in a vehicle which is effectively of modern design with coil springs, five speed gearbox, front disc brakes, etc etc. When you couple this with the fact that it is ex-military on a very late release and has therefore had a relatively short road life, you can see the obvious benefits of running a classic vehicle with modern tendencies… it really does make good sense. Remember, of course, that this vehicle is also free of computerisation and an OBD reader – so despite the creature comforts you can maintain this on your drive with a simple tool set if you wish… you don’t have to be a slave to dealerships if you don’t wish to be, and no matter where you take it – even the most remote locations without any OBD scanning tech – it can be mended.
It is also worth noting, for our London based clients, that when historic status is achieved on this Land Rover 90 on 1st January 2027, this will also mean the vehicle is both ULEZ and Congestion Charge exempt, for life, permanently.
