TOAD immobiliser
This Scimitar has been known to the club for a number of years and has been cherished by its owners. A previous body off restoration means that the chassis is in great condition, paint holding up well and even the rubber insulation that sits between it and the body looks pretty new. Spax adjustable shock absorbers are on all four corners, along with polyurethane bushes and EBC Greenstuff pads and shoes. Goodridge stainless braided brake hoses complete the upgrades. Underneath you’ll also find a stainless steel fuel tank and straps, as well as stainless steel exhausts complete with cherry bombs. It’s a very bright and loud car!
Under the bonnet, there is a 3. 5 litre Rover V8. A freshly reconditioned unit with less than 500 miles on it and assembled with a new Edelbrock Performer 500 carb, inlet manifold, water pump, oil pump, distributor, starter motor, coil, electronic ignition and HT leads. The carb is jetted to suit the 3. 5 and it runs nicely, if a little rich. Turn the key and it barks into life without much fuss. A custom aluminium radiator and electric cooling fans keep the V8 nice and cool.
Close the bonnet and the Fiat Orancio Orange bodywork shines really well. Make no mistake about it, it was painted over 20 years ago and is not perfect. There are very few bubbles on odd parts and a couple of cracks but I’ve owned around 30 Scimitars and this one is certainly opne of the best. A very noteworthy point is that the steel A posts where the door hinges attach have been replaced and are in excellent condition - a very laborious and expensive job that most Scims need now. The black vinyl roof finishes the exterior off nicely, contrasting against the orange paint. The vinyl is in good condition with no tears. The chrome bumpers are in reasonable condition but are far from perfect. I do have some better ones if the buyer wished to buy some separately.
On the inside of the GTE, there is the original dash and centre console, matched with a pair of Lotus Elite front seats. I intended on putting a pair of originals in but these are very comfy and supportive so they've stayed. The car came to me with no rear seats a false floor with hidden storage and a roll bar in their place. I have since put in some rear seats but as the photos show, they used to be tan and have been dyed badly. I’ve since not had the time to find some better ones. They can changed back to a roll bar and false floor if desired and I can assist ion finding some better seats and hinges.
Make no mistake, this Scimitar is far from perfect - If it were, it would be advertised for double as that is what top cars are now selling for.
What this car wants is an owner that will use it and tinker with it on weekends. There are no major issues with it, just niggles that can be done in someones spare time. Unfortunately, with 8 other cars, I don’t have that time.
