This Bertone styled Sport Prinz originally had 600cc engine which was professionally converted to a 4 cylinder NSU 1200TT spec engine about 15 years ago in order to compete in historic endurance rallying and competition trials, at which it was rather successful.

I bought the car for £5000 (2015) and then I spent quite a bit on bodywork, large fit Cobra seats, tyres, oil cooler, instruments, steel braided lines, suspension, bearings brakes, king pins, etc etc.. I then put the little Prinz into store for a few years while I rebuilt another historic racing car. When it was returned to me it had succumbed to inactivity and damp with seized bushes, rust in the sills and floor pan (check the MOT history).

Despite making absolutely no financial sense I decided to have the necessary work done to bring the car up to an MOT standard by rebuilding the front suspension, the floor pan, both sills, all four wings, A posts, front valance and getting it re-sprayed (2022). I really should have broken the car for spares and minimised my loses but this little car is way too charming, quirky and fun to scrap.
The engine pulls very nicely to from 25 to 85- 90mph in top, and is rolling road tested to 57bhp. These engines are capable of 120+bhp for not a huge amount of money (Speiss motorsport/ Frank Mellmann/ Salzer motorsport - check their websites). Replacement parts and tuning options are available from Germany where these cars have an enthusiastic following in historic motorsport.

Things still to do (if I don't get round to it myself first)
The windscreen has a slight gouge from the wiper blade, the roll-cage is not FIA/ MSA compliant and would need a custom one fitted if serious stage or track competition was planned. The floor pan has been properly plated where the cage uprights bolt in. The washer bottle leaks a bit (a new one is provided). The clock doesn't work, the near-side front upper suspension bush is a bit creaky but works. It has scuttle shake and clatter over bumps. There is no interior heating as the heat exchanger is bypassed by the sports exhaust (original exhaust/ heat exchanger supplied if required). It has a small electric fan heater for de-misting. I wouldn't attempt a handbrake turn. The drivers door striker plate is worn making it difficult to properly set up the drivers door - it works with a slam. I am investigating getting the plate surface welded and re-machined - the actual door hanging alignment is now perfect.

Just serviced and MOTed (April 23) . New master brake cylinder fitted

IMPORTANT- if you have limited mobility in the knee department, or have very wide feet you might not fit. However I have just fitted a slider to the driver's seat and it will now accommodate pilots over 6" although you will need correspondingly long arms as the steering column is not adjustable.
