NSU, with the Ro 80, presented a milestone in automotive development that, at its launch in autumn 1967, made every other car look old. Its design was years ahead of its rivals and still looks fresh today. The suspension was very advanced for its time, and the engine was intended to usher in a new world of propulsion. Unfortunately both the workshops and the management were ultimately overwhelmed, and the plan did not come to fruition. After the initial problems—mainly with the drive system—countless Ro 80s bore witness to the durability of the concept. Our car was exported to Spain in the summer of 1975 and driven there by its first owner until the end of 1986. The second owner, a workshop proprietor, had it until early 1991 and then sold it to a friend, who kept the NSU until 2023 and sold it when he was over 80. Thus the car returned to Germany. The favourable climatic conditions ensured that the car was never welded and is rust-free at the typical spots. In the engine bay and in the boot the original paint remains in good condition. But the bonnet and the boot lid also look like new. The NSU is fitted with an electric steel sliding sunroof. A air-conditioning system was retrofitted in Spain. The interior is overall in very good condition. The engine starts reliably and runs very smoothly. A stainless-steel exhaust system was specially made in Spain for the car. The NSU Ro 80 is a collectible car because it is very original, has not been welded and is rust-free, and the last owner held it for 30 years. The NSU has German TÜV and a historic (H) registration. The mileage of just under 65, 000 kilometres seems plausible. The car can be viewed in Bad Essen and taken for a test drive.
