Beschreibung
This TR5 was registered in February 1969. The current owner bought the car from London in 1977 and used it until 1988 when due to fuel pump issue he took it off the road and decided to store it in a barn. 31 years later in 2019 the car was removed from the barn and given to Tim Kelly a Classic Car Specialist in Cornwall for complete restoration.
The project took over a year to complete and involved a nut and bolt restoration. This included the removal of the body, stripping down the chassis which was shot blasted and repaired. The body was stripped to bear metal, repaired with the fabrication of new sections as required. New sills, door skins and front and rear wings were fitted. The engine bay, boot area and cockpit areas were shot blasted, everything was etch primed and finished off in Triumph White.
The engine which unlike the body was in good condition, was stripped down and rebuilt with new piston rings, big end shells, gaskets and oil seals. The clutch and water pump were both replaced. The suspension was completely rebuilt with all parts being shot blasted and painted before assembly. New bushes were fitted front and rear. The car was fitted with a Bosch upgraded fuel pump. The metering unit was rebuilt along with the fitting of 6 new injectors and pipes.
The car was reassembled with new stainless steel bumpers, new Minilite alloy style wheels and new tyres. The interior was fitted with new seats, carpets , trim panels and dashboard tires. The car comes with a Surrey rear window and fabric roof conversion from Revington TR.
The above is just a summary of the work carried out and the main parts fitted, the restoration involved over 350 hours of work and the supply and fitting of parts costing over £17, 000. The end result is a meticulously restored TR5 which looks stunning.
There are available extensive photographic records of the work carried out along with a complete breakdown of the parts used. The original hard Surrey top was not restored, but is available along with the original wheels to the new owner.
