Uber rare RHD 2. 7 Targa.
Benefiting from the 2. 7 litre motor (Type 911/ 83) from the highly revered 1973 RS model. 6 cylinders with race engine inspired Nikasil linings and mechanical fuel injection, now packaged in new, G-Series, impact bumper bodywork.
You’d be hard pushed to find another. Figures suggest less than 500 Targa models were produced, with RHD versions accounting for perhaps 10% of that number.
This 1974 example is accompanied by the original order form and Porsche ‘Pass Out’ check sheet. First registered in Jersey in June 1974, then UK registered in January 1976. Later in its life, it spent time in France (registered there in 2008), until it was brought back to the UK and re-registered in 2014, when Adrian sold it to its current owner. Williams Crawford have maintained it since then.
It has just ventured through our workshop and restoration department for a full ‘once-over’ prior to sale. Over £6, 000 has been invested making sure this 911 is good to go; work included a full service including spark plugs, fuel filter, brake fluid, camshaft and sump gaskets and a fine tune of the injection system.
The brakes have been cleaned and adjusted, there’s a new clutch cable, new anti roll bar bushes and bonnet and engine lid struts. The underside has a fresh coat of stonechip and four new Pirelli tyres have been fitted.
The history folder which accompanies this car is extensive; MOT certificates plus many invoices and receipts detailing the general maintenance, servicing and repairs over the years.
Highlights include:
* Full engine and gearbox rebuild with new parts as required, approximately 17, 000 miles ago.
* Comprehensive restoration approximately 30, 000 miles ago; bodywork back to bare metal, repairs and replacement panels, fresh paint (Oxford blue, code 329). Suspension, steering, braking and fuel systems overhauled.
* Targa roof refurbished and interior retrimmed in Metropole (dark) blue leather.
It’s an older restoration. It’s not perfect, but that equates to guilt free enjoyment with great options. The original colour was Royal purple, (code 341), so maybe a return to that hue in the future? Or just use and enjoy it as it is.
The future is unpredictable, but this 911 is surely a good bet? It ticks the right boxes; desirable, unusual, excellent provenance and, most importantly, fun to drive.
Complete with tool roll, jack and spare wheel, driver’s manual and new service book.
