The DVLA database has 21x 1963 Morris Cooper S 1071 - most of which are restored, making this a very rare mini and even rarer, a project. BMC only made the 1071 S from April 1963 to August 1964.
If you didn't know, 2023 will be the 60th anniversary of the Cooper S, the 1071 was the first 'S' model and, 2024 will be the 60th anniversary of Paddy Hopkirk winning the Monte Carlo Rally in 33EJB - a 1071 - aka the Giant Killer. People often think the 970S was the first 'S' model but it came out in 1964.
This 'Unicorn' mini will be eligible to take part in a number of prestigious races if the owner wishes eg Goodwood, Historic Masters, Monte Carlo Historique etc.
This car is the first 'Cooper S' model in the first 3 months of production, it is a Morris and all early mini race cars are Morris.
So this is a great time to buy a 1071 Cooper S an iconic Mini that is set to make headlines over the next few years. Being a project, you can restore it to your own standards, specifications and add value. It would be great to make it an EV, a historic race car or as it left the factory example. You will have options, I believe this is a great investment that is set to get a bump up in values as it hits those significant anniversaries.
