Firstly it’s a proper van not a car with panels this makes it very very
rare, only 18 survivors and I would without doubt say this is the best one.
However if you have a better one send me a picture
It’s been with me for 10years and in that time done about 400 miles
Been kept dry in garage with covers
Starts on the button every time and drives a treat I simply never have time to use it.
On buying it it was super solid just one small hole in drivers footwell the
Rest was surface rust.
New fuel tank was needed, so that started the job off - rear axle out blasted, painted, tank out, new fuel pumps, new brake pipes, discs, shoes etc, everything cleaned stripped and painted, etc.
The under side was coated first in dinatrol ML and then dinatrol 4941
after the rust had been fully cleaned and treated with Fertan - if you are unsure on any of these products then please do look them up.
It then went for a glass out doors off paint job done by a classic car specialist this was about 8 years ago- and paint work still looks amazing.(so it’s not a lick over to sell)
No rust anywhere ( well tiny spot near back window glass but been there for years)
The glass was then replaced with genuine VW tinted glass from a polo genesis ( green tint) the carpet and seats also came from the same donor car
The rear was insulated and lined with carpet, both to the front and rear
And fitted with bespoke polo mats.
She has just gone though her MOT, failed on emissions, but we cleaned the throttle body and did an ultra sonic clean of the injector and she sailed through her MOT.
She has been to a few shows and gets some great comments.
Alloys are unmarked and she is sat on Pirelli tyres P4 all only done 500 miles max.
Please, no test monkeys come and look you won’t be disappointed.
Under the bonnet is clean and tidy but not been painted just original
Vac pipes done with silicone etc
It had plugs leads coils distributor etc at rebuild oil been dropped and filter every year even if it’s only done 10 miles (gets started regularly)
Radio cassette from new with code
Recent new sump due to a leak
Just repainted front callipers as had lost there shine
Most important thing is, it’s not going to drive like your golf R or
Your 22 plate bmw she’s an old girl not a street racer
But she will take you to a show and make you proud.
Fuel gauge is a bit irregular - but I think float is sticking never had it full
As I like to keep it fresh.
It’s not perfect but it’s 30 years old I am hoping it goes into someone’s
Collection.
Rather than being dropped to floor and thrashed until it dies, I would not want this.
But you pay your money you do what you like.
It comes with a well thumbed Haynes manual and and a good amount of paperwork, ad a good amount of spares.
One thing for sure you won’t find another one.
