The Corrado was introduced in 1989 and named under ‘Corrar’ meaning ‘To Run’ in Spanish. It reflects VW’s most sophisticated for the era blend of 4-passenger comfort with sportsmanship. The Herbert Schäfer- streamlined body of 0. 32 drag coefficient was equipped with a speed-controlled rear spoiler that would automatically raise above 100 km/ h to reduce rear lift by over 64%. Sharp cornering at all speeds was achieved via MacPherson front struts with lowered wishbones, antiroll bars and power-assisted rack and pinion steering. Of the 2 engines available, the 1. 8 lt PG G60 unit feautured in the Corrado G60 was supercharged by a nautilus-shaped G-Lader of 60mm displacer depth delivering 158 bhp and 225 Nm with no turbo lag whatsoever. Assembled at Karmann’s Osnabruck plant, all Corrados featured top end quality as well as extensive anti-corrosion protection via zinc-plating opening panels and galvanizing prior to wax-oiling the shell.
The Corrado G60 offered was manufactured in 1991 in specially ordered Purple Light Blue Pearl exterior over Black leather interior. It is equipped with numerous desirable options including the electric/ sliding/ lifting sunroof, height and backrest electrically adjustable seats, ABS and heat insulating windshield. The longtime care it received over 3 decades was supplemented in 2021 by an extensive series of repairs by marque collector. This included overhauling of the engine, its G-Lader, the brakes, the ABS unit with new sensors, both front and rear suspensions. Additional new parts fitted included a metallic catalytic converter, lamda sensor, fuel lines, radiator hoses and switches.
