Description
Three owners, fully restored luxurious classic German saloon and finished in the glorious dark blue.
After 30 years in the industry, this is the first 190 Ponton we’ve come across, and as you can see, it is simply stunning in its presentation and is fabulous to drive.
It was first registered early 1960 and it has been very much cared for in its past. The latest owner acquired the vehicle in June 2002 and had it for 20 years. It’s been subject to an utterly expensive and lengthy 14-year restoration, which was completed in 2016, and has recently subject to a bottom end inspection and refurbishment. The paintwork for example, was undertaken by an Aston Martin approved body shop, The Autoshop, to a total of £5, 400. And it’s clear to see why, because the paintwork is, without question, the best we’ve seen in our showroom in an extremely long time.
Undertaken during the restoration included the headlights being upgraded to halogen and an alternator fitted over the existing dynamo. This 190 was restored with the view to retain as many parts as possible, with many trim pieces retained including headlight surrounds, the radiator cover and more to preserve an element of patina. The 190 was the winner of ‘best in show’ at Gloucester Motor Show.
Original it was black, and is now presented in Dunkelblau, which is dark blue, along with a contrasting grey striped interior. The interior, a period correct design on fire-retardant cloth was ordered specifically from Germany, with the headlining a Rolls-Royce material.
Gas oil adjustable dampers were fitted for increased handling, as well as a stainless-steel exhaust, but with the correct Mercedes back box. It benefited from an engine inspection and bottom end refurbishment in 2021 for good measure. Back in the day, this 190 had impressive handling and the ride quality was superior at its time. This 190 is still comfortable and smooth to drive and gives a sensationally relaxed driving experience.
With the odometer shows a modest 103, 691 miles, this example is offered for sale with a history file including a copy of the build card with official embossed stamp, handbook, continuation book, large collection of receipts and invoices, some photographs of the restoration, 1L of matching paint, spare set of front brake shoes, 2 sets of keys which do ignition, doors and boot, and finally a V5C document which displays 2 former keepers.
