Beschreibung

Up for grabs is our much loved Golf Mk1 GTI Sportline, the last of the Mk1 GTIs ever made, with only around 150 surviving. The car is completely standard with no modifications whatsoever.

The only modern addition to the car is an updated imitation cassette tape unit that includes Bluetooth phone/ music streaming etc made by Blaupunkt (same manufacturer as the original headunit). This keeps the period look of the car but allows reception of DAB radio and for your phone to charge and stream music, it was a £500 addition to the car.

It has covered just over 130, 000 miles, MOT is booked and will not be due until May 2024.

Everything is present and correct for Sportline spec including the Recaro interior, leather steering wheel and correct 4 panel gear knob, correct 15” BBS rims with black centres, red instrument needles and Sportline decals.

Everything works, including the electric roof (which was replaced 5 years ago but it has been garaged since so is as new). It is watertight and goes up and down without any issues and folds correctly unlike many you see out there! The MFA is fully working too with a fully functioning screen!

It even has its original dealer fit VW branded floor mats and mud guards in place and it’s original tonneau cover.

A light restoration was completed earlier this year, including renewing the cooling system, heater matrix and radiator as well as replacing HT leads, distributor and rotor arm. The gearbox oil was renewed along with new seals. New modern retro headunit as previously mentioned with new correct size JBL speakers all around in the original housings and upgraded DAB aerial booster. The oil and filter were also changed along with air filter and fuel filter. Inner spotlights lights were refurbished as they had clouded and are now clear and the headlight loom upgraded and relayed in order to improve headlight output. The wheel alignment was also seen to. In addition to this the engine has been set up correctly and tuned so it purrs just like it should and drives with with the responses you would expect from a GTI.

Shortly before my ownership the car was also treated to new pads, discs and drums all around, new spark plugs, injector lines and injectors. It also gained a new standard exhaust so no silly boy racer sounds. It has covered less than 3000 miles since all of this work.

Other things that mark this car out amongst all the trash out there is the little touches, such as the dash having never been drilled for security systems or the parcel shelf for speakers. Everything is as it left the factory, such as the original and correct green tinted VW glass all around, including original windscreen! There have also only been 3 previous owners in 30 years and the car is HPI clear.

The car has a comprehensive service history from new, including original service book and original bill of sale as well as receipts going back through its entire life. Both keys are also present and they operate all locks and ignition as they should, so nothing has ever been changed. I have changed the oil and filter every 12 months (only covering around 1000 miles between changes).

Bodywork on the car is very honest, with marks from use and wear and tear, but it is presentable and turns heads everywhere you go, polishing up nicely. All of the body kit is present and correct along with the side strips and Sportline stickers.

I also had an immobiliser professionally installed shortly after purchase with certification included to protect the car from less desirable people. It is also garaged at all times and only taken out on dry weekends up to the Peak District for picnics or to local classic car shows. It is always driven with mechanical sympathy and to be fair, if you’re after something to win the traffic light Grand Prix I would suggest looking elsewhere, the cabriolet wasn’t even that quick when it was new!

This is my second Sportline and it took me 4 years to find it. Must be one of the very best in the country and attracts smiles and questions everywhere you go as well as constant offers to buy it!

The only reason for sale is that our family is growing and we are in a dilemma. Our 2 young children are now getting too heavy to travel in a lap belt approved child seat, as the cabriolet only has lap belts in the rear it will soon get to the stage that we cannot go out in the car as a family any more. I looked into this extensively and was very tempted to fit a rear 3 point belt conversion kit so that we could continue to use it, but with this car being so original I am reluctant to start cutting holes in the car and changing the spec. Another option would be to keep the car in storage until the children are old enough/ tall enough to use the adult seat belts, but this could be several years away. So this is a genuine and reluctant reason for sale.

A rare and totally standard bit of VW history! Must be one of the best in the UK and thousands cheaper than some out there at classic car dealers.

Our family time is precious so please no dreamers turning up to kick tyres and waste our evenings - serious interest only.

The car is located in Smalley, Derbyshire.
