ClassicCarDesign offers you this beautiful Mercedes 450 SL convertible. This car stands out because it is in European configuration, whereas most of the R107 SLs are in US version, recognizable by their prominent bumpers. This is a first generation model from 1974, this type of SL will be produced until 1989.
On the outside, the red bodywork is striking. Repainted a few years ago, there are no dents or scratches. The chromes are very nice and the various rubber protections are not very marked and without any deformation. The manual soft top in black Alpaca is in good condition, only a small repair on the left side. Characteristic of the SL, the car is of course equipped with a hard top similar in style to that of the earlier Pagodas.
Inside, black is omnipresent, it's the Germanic rigour! The leatherette seats are in perfect condition. Equipped with a rear bench seat, it is a 4-seater title. The carpets are beautiful and without pronounced wear. The dashboard looks like new thanks to the rigid cover that covers it. All the equipment works except for the air conditioning, which will eventually have to be reactivated, which is not a priority in a convertible!
Mechanically, the largest engine of the time is at the front of this "little" Mercedes, the 4. 5L V8. Big engine and small body, the magic recipe for a high performance car! Nevertheless, we find the comfortable character of the Mercedes of the time. Gearbox and suspension are soft and supple. The brakes are in near new condition and are irreproachable.
You would think you were a star at the wheel: it is a real icon of the small and big screen in the 80s! It will be seen for example in the series Dallas or the Beverly Hills Cop. The reputation of Mercedes is well established, the SL is the perfect convertible to use without moderation in summer as well as in winter thanks to its hard-top...
